  • One of the Largest Collections of Disney Theme Park Memorabilia Ever Assembled Is up for Auction

One of the Largest Collections of Disney Theme Park Memorabilia Ever Assembled Is up for Auction

From a seven-foot statue of Mickey Mouse to Walt Disney’s personal backyard railroad, one of the largest collections of Disney theme park memorabilia ever assembled is on the auction block in Dallas.

All told, roughly 800 pieces of Disney history spanning six decades of magic are currently available through Heritage Auctions’ The Art of the Disney Theme Park & Disney Storybook Art auction event.

“The nostalgia for Disney theme parks is something that unites generations of fans,” Jim Lentz, Vice President of Animation at Heritage, said in a news release. “More than vacation memories, the power of nostalgia is in its ability to capture the energy and emotion of a time and place. While Disneyland and Walt Disney World are ever-changing, the memorabilia of those earlier times are tangible touchpoints to the past—a way to celebrate its history and preserve those memories.”

The offerings from Walt Disney World range from the iconic oversized map of the Walt Disney World Resort that was displayed in rooms at the Contemporary Resort and Polynesian Resort in the 1970s, to a construction sign teasing the coming of a new Tomorrowland in 1994.

“Among my favorite pieces are from the quieter corners of Walt Disney World, such as the silkscreened restaurant posters from the Contemporary Resort in the 1980s,” Lentz said. “Some of these places were around for a year, some for a decade, but they’re all remembered here and the post-modern graphics that Disney’s sign shop utilized are amazingly fun to look back at.”

The auction also includes rare memorabilia from Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, the Disney Cruise Line, and even the Disney Store.

“The tremendous surge in interest in this collecting area far outpaces the extremely limited supply,” Lentz noted. “So many of these are one-of-a-kind artifacts, and we are honored and excited to not only bring these lots together but to take collectors on a journey through the history of the Disney theme parks.”

The live, online auction runs through Saturday, April 10.

  • Walt Disney Studios Releases Second ‘Cruella’ Trailer

Walt Disney Studios Releases Second ‘Cruella’ Trailer

Disney has unleashed a new full-length trailer for it’s upcoming Cruella de Vil origin story.

In the latest trailer, Stone’s Cruella, at first just an aspiring and daring fashion designer named Estella, gets killer advice from Thompson’s Baroness on how to make it in the industry.

“Let me give you some advice, you can’t care about anyone else,” Baroness is seen telling then-Estella during a fancy meal at the beginning of the trailer. “Everyone else is an obstacle. You care what an obstacles wants or feels, you’re dead. If I care about anyone or thing I might’ve died.” Take a look at the trailer below:

“You have the talent. Whether you have the killer instinct is the big question,” Baroness says, and Cruella sets out to prove she has just that in the rest of the action-packed trailer that pits the women against each other.

The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry as Cruella’s henchmen Horace and Jasper, and Emma Thompson as the Baroness, the head of a fashion house where our budding villainess gets a job. Having been announced in 2013 and cast its leading lady in 2016, the project has had a long journey to the screen, passing between multiple writers before Dana Fox and Tony McNamara wrote the final version of the screenplay.

The Walt Disney Company releases Cruella on May 28.

Disney World Guest Embarrasses Fiancee with Fake Proposals All Over the Park

Disney World is one of the most popular places for people to propose to their significant other and while some find it magical others may not like large crowds of onlookers and one guest took embarrassing their financee to the next level by prank proposing to her all of the park.

Kelly Lavery posted a video of the rejected proposals to TikTok where it has been viewed over 6 million times.

Take a look at the video below:

A woman shared footage to her TikTok page that shows her fiance pretending to propose to her multiple times during a recent trip to Disney World in Florida. Each time, as the man gets down on one knee, his embarrassed fiancé walks away, leaving the crowds completely confused.

Lavery wrote in the video’s description, “We were already engaged so he knew he could get away with this. We go back in June, wish me luck.”

In a follow-up video, Lavery explained that her fiancé had previously proposed (for real) at the couple’s house. According to her, the only witness to the event was their dog, which was fine since Lavery apparently doesn’t like making a scene.

  • Disney Launches New Contactless Park Entry Option

Disney Launches New Contactless Park Entry Option

As of Tuesday, guests with Apple devices can now use the Disney MagicMobile service that basically turns their smartphones into a MagicBand, allowing contactless entry into the parks.

Available now on iPhone and Apple Watch and coming soon to other smart devices, Disney MagicMobile service is a fun, easy-to-use new way for guests to experience The Most Magical Place on Earth. The service is offered in addition to other options such as the MagicBand, the colorful, all-in-one bracelet, which will continue to be available and introduced in even more colors, designs and limited-edition fan favorites into the future.

Below are a few helpful tips to get started with Disney MagicMobile service:

    • Create A Customized Digital Pass: Guests can create a Disney MagicMobile pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to the Wallet app on iPhone or the digital wallet on other smart devices. You can customize your pass by choosing from several Disney-themed designs that animate upon use (including special designs just for Annual Passholders and DVC Members)! For added ease, you may also store multiple passes on a single device, a great option for families.
    • Easily Enter the Parks and More: Simply hold your iPhone, Apple Watch, or other smart device near an access point when entering the parks or using other available features, just like you do with a MagicBand. With Express Mode on iPhone and Apple Watch, guests do not even need to wake or unlock their Apple device, or open up the app, to use their Disney MagicMobile pass. As a reminder, valid park admission and a park reservation are required for park entry and must be linked to your account.
    • Discover Other App Enhancements: We’ve also added a new feature in the My Disney Experience app that allows you to automatically link your Disney PhotoPass attraction photos and videos to your profile through your smartphone. Just confirm your settings in advance of riding at participating attractions. The My Disney Experience app also enables Disney Resort hotel guests to unlock their room door using our current digital room key feature.

You may use Disney MagicMobile service, a MagicBand or a card interchangeably for added flexibility. Disney Resort hotel guests can purchase MagicBands at a special, pre-arrival price. Guests can also pick up a Key to the World card at their convenience at the front desk.

  • Disneyland Unveils Theme Park Expansion Plans

Disneyland Unveils Theme Park Expansion Plans

In a press briefing given on Thursday, Disneyland has revealed its plans for a major expansion of its theme parks.

The DisneylandForward project updates the blueprint of the resort area and reimagines the area, growing the Disneyland resort and adding a mix of hotels, retail, dining and entertainment to the eastern and western edges of the property.

On the west side of the resort, near Downtown Disney and the Lilo and Stitch parking lots, there are plans for a possible third theme park that would weave around the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.

During a media briefing, officials noted that this would be more an expansion of the current theme parks rather than a “third gate.”

The east side expansion included theme park experiences, hotels, retail, dining and entertainment in what is currently the Toy Story parking lot next to the Anaheim Convention Center. The plans also call for new parking on Disney Way.

“What we do know today is that guests need and want more,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Jeanette Lomboy. “In order to give guests what they want, we need more flexibility here in Anaheim. Guests are demanding immersive integrated experiences that are not singular in their uses. We no longer think of uses as separate. Retail, dining, entertainment, theme parks and hotels are all part of the same experiences in the same place. And we need the space in our lands to create story-rich environments.”

Disneyland is hoping for flexibility from the city of Anaheim. The project would need to be approved by city leaders and a back-and-forth planning phase is expected to last two years before any decisions are made.
