Florida Demolishing Crossroads Shopping Center to Build a New Road to Disney World

Florida has acquired the Crossroads Shopping Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and plan to bulldoze the area to build a new road to Walt Disney World.

The state has reached a $198 million agreement to acquire a popular shopping complex at Disney World’s front door, making it the largest eminent domain settlement in Florida’s history, according to the lead attorney representing the property owner.

The Florida Department of Transportation’s plan is to build a new interchange for the “Interstate 4 Beyond the Ultimate” expansion project at what is now the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista near the often congested Exit 68, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

Attorneys for Florida Department of Transportation and Crossroad’s owner U.S. Cities Fund signed the final judgment in late 2020 that outlined payments of about $39 million for the 25 tenants — the largest going to Gooding’s Supermarkets for $15.7 million, according to Orange Circuit court documents.

  • Disney+ Blocks Kids From Watching Peter Pan, Dumbo and Others Due to Racist Stereotypes

Disney+ Blocks Kids From Watching Peter Pan, Dumbo and Others Due to Racist Stereotypes

Disney+ has blocked kids under seven from watching Peter Pan, Dumbo and others over concerns they show racist stereotypes.

While the films remain available on adult accounts, they come with a disclaimer that says: ‘This programme includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now.”

“Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together,” Disney said.

Disney implemented a revised content advisory in October to flag up any issues surrounding racial stereotypes and concerns were raised in relation to Peter Pan and the other productions. The decision to ban the films from children’s accounts was made by a group of external experts who were brought in to assess if the content ‘represented global audiences’.

Other long-standing family favourites – The Aristocats, Swiss Family Robinson and Dumbo – have also been removed from children’s accounts for breaching ‘content advisories’ that were recently put in place.

It is understood the main reason behind Peter Pan being blocked is because it features a Native American tribe whose members are referred to as ‘redskins’.

Meanwhile, the 1970 movie The Aristocats has a Siamese cat character called Shun Gon, whose slanted eyes and prominent teeth have been described as a caricature of East Asian people.

Swiss Family Robinson, which was made in 1960, has been criticised for its ‘yellow face’ and ‘brown face’ pirates.

Dumbo, the 1941 cartoon about a lovable flying elephant, has been accused of ridiculing enslaved African-Americans on Southern plantations. At one point during a musical interlude, faceless black workers toil away to offensive lyrics such as, ‘When we get our pay, we throw our money all away’.

The Disney website says that while it can’t change the past, “we can acknowledge it, learn from it and move forward together to create a tomorrow that today can only dream of.”

  • BREAKING: Chris Evans Returning to Marvel As Captain America

BREAKING: Chris Evans Returning to Marvel As Captain America

After Chris Evans was thought to be finished with the role of Captain America following Avengers: Endgame there are now reports that he may reprise the role in the MCU in some form.

Evans is expected to return in at least one Marvel property with the deal leaving thee door open for him to appear in another movie later, according to a Deadline report.

Sources add it’s unlikely to be a new Captain America installment and more likely to be like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in films like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Evans had previously indicated he was finished playing Captain America after the character’s arc had seemingly been fulfilled by the end of Avengers: Endgame. “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way,” Evans said in May.

In his last appearance, Evans portrayed a version of Captain America who was handing over shield (and mantle) to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Mackie brings Sam Wilson to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+ in March, a production which has already wrapped.

Disney to Halt Contributions to U.S. Lawmakers who Opposed Biden Certification

The Walt Disney Co joined other major companies in indefinitely suspending donations to U.S. lawmakers who voted against President-elect Joe Biden’s election certification.

Disney, the entertainment company, said in a statement that in the “immediate aftermath of that appalling siege, members of Congress had an opportunity to unite — an opportunity that some sadly refused to embrace. In light of these events, we have decided we will not make political contributions in 2021 to lawmakers who voted to reject the certification of the Electoral College votes.”

Disney CEO Bob Chapek condemned the violent act of rioters at the U.S. Capitol, noting that Wednesday’s unprecedented fatal events marked “a sad and tragic day for our country, one unlike any other in our history,” as you can see in the tweet below:

That’s significant news in Florida, where the Walt Disney Company operates its largest theme park and resort property. Florisa Sen. Rick Scott objected to Pennsylvania’s slate of electors and 12 members of the House objected to both Pennsylvania and Arizona.

The Center for Responsive Politics reports the Walt Disney Company made more than $19 million in federal political donations in the 2020 cycle alone. The corporation wrote checks for candidates on both sides of the aisle, donating nearly $1.2 million to Biden’s Presidential campaign but also almost $656,000 to the Republican National Committee and nearly $627,000 to the DNC Services Corp.

AT&T, parent company of WarnerMedia, and Comcast, parent of NBCUniversal, announced on Monday that they would be suspending contributions, joining a host of other companies including Marriott, Blue Cross Blue Shield and American Express.

  • Disney Reveals New Baby Rhino’s Name at Animal Kingdom

Disney Reveals New Baby Rhino’s Name at Animal Kingdom

Disney Parks has share a video that the Animal Kingdom keeper team put together of the parks newest rhino calf to reveal his name while showing him achieving some of his important first milestones.

Ever since his arrival announced at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park this past October, guests have been wondering about the baby boy rhino and his mom Kendi, since many of them followed Kendi’s pregnancy story on the Disney+ original series “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” produced by National Geographic.

Take a look at the video below and be sure to pay close attention to the ending for the big reveal.

The Animal Kingdom keeper team wanted to make sure their baby boy had a name with special significance – they wanted his name to honor the wildlife rangers who protect rhinos around the world. Rhinos are the world’s second largest land animal and among the most endangered animals in the wild due to poaching.

Ranger’s name is just another way they join the Disney Conservation Fund in efforts to support rhino conservation. Did you know they have given more than 75 grants and awards to rhino protection projects? Most recently, they gave a rhino ranger, Sgt. Mutinda Ndivo with the Big Life Foundation, a Disney Conservation Hero award for his work to protect rhinos and other wildlife in more than 1.6 million acres of wilderness in East Africa.

Typically, a rhino calf can weigh up to 140 pounds at birth, and as expected, this baby was nursing, standing and walking around right by mom within the first hour of being born.

Kendi was paired with dad Dugan through one of the Species Survival Plans, which are overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to ensure the responsible breeding of endangered species. White rhinos are an endangered species with a near-threatened status.

We’ll make sure to update you when he makes his grand debut and ventures out onto the savanna at Kilimanjaro Safaris to join the crash (a rhino herd) in the coming weeks.

  • Johnny Depp Reportedly Cast in Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice 2’

Johnny Depp Reportedly Cast in Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice 2’

After Johnny Depp lost his libel case in the UK, Disney and other studios began to back away from the famed Pirates of the Caribbean actor, but rumour has that long time friend Tim Burton might be the one to give the actor another shot with a role in Beetlejuice 2.

“Depp has had talks with his old friend to team up once again for a new project. He can’t say for sure right now what it might be, but he notes that one possibility is the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2,” insider Daniel Richtman claims.

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have a longstanding successful relationship when it comes to movies. This shared history might be one reason the director is willing to consider Depp in an upcoming film in spite of the latter’s recent woes. Through the years they’ve worked together on a total of eight films.

“If he manages to get one more good part, he could ostensibly come back,” indie producer Orian Williams said. “I would consider hiring him for the right role. You can question a lot, but you can’t ever question his talent.”

Disney had distanced itself from the 57-year-old actor even before his ‘wife beater’ libel trial in the UK, despite never formally severing ties according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR reveals Disney blocked Depp’s return to Pirate’s of the Caribbean. Citing producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s desire to include Depp in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, even if just in a cameo role to hand over the reins of the franchise to Robbie, the report says “Disney balked,” refusing to entertain the idea due to the reputation risk it would pose for the family-friendly media giant.
