Disney World Sues Tax Appraiser Claiming Property Taxes are Too High

Disney World has been fighting Orange County over it’s property tax assessments since 2015 and now the company has filed 11 new lawsuits in Orange Circuit Court aimed at Property Appraiser Rick Singh and his 2018 appraisal of the Orlando resort.

Singh doesn’t follow “professionally accepted appraisal practices,” according to Disney. Singh has assessed the Magic Kingdom at $468 million and Epcot at $511 million, Hollywood Studios at $350 million and Animal Kingdom for $429 million, according recently filed lawsuits.

“The increases in the assessments of our property have been unreasonable and unjustified since 2015,” said Disney vice president of communications Jacquee Wahler in a statement. “Until the values are corrected, we will continue to dispute the errors by the property appraiser as any property owner in Orange County would do.”

“The disputes between Disney and Singh, who took office in 2013, have gone on for years, with more than 40 lawsuits still pending since 2016,” according to an Orlando Sentinel report.

Disney paid about $24 million in property taxes in 2018 for the four theme parks, according to the tax collector’s office.

Disney+ Reveals First Look at Monsters, Inc. TV Spin-Off

Disney has revealed a first look at Monsters at Workthe upcoming Disney+ animated show that will spin off Pixar’s Oscar-winning Monsters, Inc. into a new expanded series.

Monsters At Work stars Ben Feldman as a brand new character in the Monsters world, Tylor Tuskmon. And, of course, Monstropolis wouldn’t be the same without the original Monsters, Inc. voices Billy Crystal and John Goodman returning as Mike and Sulley.

The series picks up six months after the original movie’s story, with the Monsters, Inc. power plant now harvesting laughter (instead of screams) to fuel the city of Monstropolis. Tylor Tuskmon is an eager mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT) who dreams of working his way up to the factory “Laugh Floor” to become a jokester alongside his idols Mike and Sulley.

In addition to Mike and Sulley, other fan-favorite Monsters, Inc. characters will appear in the show as well! Including Celia, voiced by Jennifer Tilly, and Yeti, voiced by Pixar mainstay John Ratzenberger (who will also voice a new character, Bernard). Plus, Bob Peterson returns as Roz… as well as her twin sister Roze?!

On top of these classic characters, there are tons of new characters as well! Joining the cast of the new animated series is Kelly Marie Tran as Val Little, Tylor’s lifelong friend and confidante; Henry Winkler as Fritz, the scatterbrained boss; Lucas Neff as Duncan, an opportunistic plumber; Alanna Ubach as Cutter, the rule follower; Stephen Stanton as Smitty and Needleman, the bumbling custodial team, and Aisha Tyler as Tylor’s mom Millie Tuskmon.

The series is produced by Disney Television Animation, executive produced by Disney animation veteran Bobs Gannaway (Mickey Mouse ClubhousePlanes: Fire & Rescue) with Ferrell Barron (Planes: Fire & Rescue) serving as producer.

    Disney+ launches in the U.S. on November 12, 2019.

  • Disney Obtains Permits to Build Marvel Land at Califonia Adventure

Disney Obtains Permits to Build Marvel Land at Califonia Adventure

As we previously reported, Disney has plans to bring Marvel Land to Disneyland Resort and now those plans are in full swing as the company has recently obtained permits to begin the expansion.

Last year, CEO Bob Iger teased the expansion to the company’s California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort, and it seems Disney is moving full steam ahead to bring its popular superhero franchise to parkgoers.

The city of Anaheim has approved a handful of building permits for projects such as a bathroom overhaul, a retail outlet, a microbrewery, a character meet-and-greet area, plus improvements to behind-the-scenes buildings

The construction permits assess the value of the work so far at more than $14 million, according to an L.A. Times report.

Licensing agreements that predated Disney’s 2009 acquisition of Marvel Entertainment bans the word “Marvel” from appearing on any theme-park land. However, it is possible that Disney has found a way around that either legally or by using the word “Avengers” in its place.

The Marvel-themed park will be located near the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride, which took the place of the Tower of Terror ride in 2017

More details about the land are expected to be released at the 2019 D23 Expo scheduled for Aug. 23 to 25

Marvel land is reportedly slated to open at Disneyland Resort in 2020 and New Marvel Lands will also be developed in Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong.
