Disneyland Replacing Annual Passes With Membership Program

Disneyland canceled it’s annual pass program back in January and now details on what will replace it are coming out.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products told the Los Angeles Times a replacement membership program was coming “relatively soon.”

More specifically, in regard to replacing the annual pass program, Disneyland President Ken Potrock recently told the official D23 Inside Disney podcast that the park would “clearly be launching something by the end of the year.”

Potrock indicated that the new membership program will be heavily informed by guest demand and experience. To that end, he said park officials were parsing results from research conducted earlier this year.

That lines up with D’Amaro’s comment to the L.A. Times that the new program “will reflect the behavior of our superfans.”

During the yearlong closure of park executives have been able to reimagine the park with a vision to what guests will want going forward. The reimagining of the annual pass program is part of that.

  • BREAKING: Disneyland Cancels Annual Passholder Program

BREAKING: Disneyland Cancels Annual Passholder Program

Disneyland has canceled its annual passholder program.

The company updated its current annual passport page online to alert customers that it will, “be issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current Annual Passport program.”

“We want to thank our Annual Passholders for their understanding during this closure period,” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock wrote in a statement published on Disney Parks’ Twitter as you can see below:

The move was made out of concern that demand by fans using the popular membership program could overwhelm Disney’s capacity-constrained Anaheim theme parks once an extended coronavirus closure eventually comes to an end.

“Due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and limitations around the reopening of our California theme parks, we will be issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current program. We are currently developing new membership offerings that will utilize consumer insights to deliver choice, flexibility, and value for our biggest fans,” Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock said in a statement.

Disneyland will offer a pro rata refund, which is the total value of the passport minus the usable value left, to eligible customers. Customers can check online for more information on how to get and calculate their refund.

  • Disney World Annual Passholders Accidentally Charged for Multiple Months

Disney World Annual Passholders Accidentally Charged for Multiple Months

Disney World is reopening later this month so it was expected that annual pass holders would start seeing charges resume on thier monthly payment plans, but some have reported being overcharged for the past three months while the theme parks were closed due to the coronavirus.

Disney World has already confirmed that they are aware of the mistake and are working to resolve the issue.

“Passholders on the monthly payment program were incorrectly charged today. We are in the process of reversing these charges and apologize for the inconvenience this caused,” a Disney spokesperson said in an email.

Disney World has been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. An email was sent to passholders in April stating that monthly payments were placed on hold through the closures. The company said it would refund payments made March 14 through April 5 for passholders who pay monthly.

Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks will reopen July 11 and Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will reopen July 15. Disney has announced a phased reopening with limited capacity, new reservation protocols and health measures due to the coronavirus.

Disney World Annual Passholders Reservations All Claimed within 30 Minutes

On Friday, Disney World opened its new Park Pass Reservation System to passholders and those coveted spots were booked up faster than you can say Mickey Mouse by all those eagerly waiting to be among the first guests to visit the parks when they reopen.

The new Disney Park Pass system went live for passholders sometime around 6 a.m. By 6:30 a.m., the availability calendar showed that reservations were no longer available for passholders on July 11, the day Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom reopen.

Later in the morning, the same calendar showed that reservations were no longer available for July 12-15. Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot reopen on July 15.

Passholders are able to book three reservation days at a time.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disney World will be limiting capacity at its parks when they reopen. To help manage attendance, all visitors will need to secure a park reservation for specific days.

Disney Suspends Annual Passholder Payments During Coronavirus Closure

Walt Disney World and Disneyland annual passholders will see their payments refunded or waived during the remainder of the parks’ closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Effective April 5, 2020, for Annual Passholders on monthly payments, we will automatically stop and waive all upcoming monthly payments while the theme parks are closed.

Disney will also retroactively refund payments made between March 14 through April 4, 2020. Payments will resume on the Passholder’s regularly scheduled payment dates once the parks reopen. Please note, pass expiration dates will not be extended and passes will expire upon their originally scheduled expiration dates.

As an alternative, guests who are paying for Annual Passes using their monthly payment program may choose to have their monthly payments postponed starting with payments due April 5 through the park closure period, and then resumed on the Passholder’s regularly scheduled payment date once the parks reopen. Postponed payments will be collected in the months following the end of the Passholder’s currently scheduled payment term. The pass will be extended the number of days the parks are closed. The new expiration date will be reflected on the Annual Passholder’s account prior to the reopening of the theme parks. Information will be provided soon on how to choose this option.
