VIDEO: Man Jumps Off Thunder Mountain for His Phone at Disneyland

A man jumped off Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to retrieve his phone, ruining the rest of the ride for all of the other passengers.

The video was posted back in January 2018, but the story has really started picking up steam this week online with news outlets across the internet reacting the incident.

As the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride climbed to a big drop, the man jumped out of his carriage to ‘retrieve his phone’ as you can see in the video below.

A father filming the roller coaster captured the moment the other passenger stepped out of the ride to retrieve the ‘shattered’ phone.

The ride was stopped completely as an announcer said there were “technical difficulties.” They even made everyone in line get out and told them to comeback at a later time.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

  • Lawsuits Seeking $15k Claim Disney World’s PeopleMover Caused Injures

Lawsuits Seeking $15k Claim Disney World’s PeopleMover Caused Injures

Two sets of Disney World visitors who say they were injured on the PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom have filed lawsuits against the company seeking damages in excess of $15,000, a pair of lawsuits claim.

New Jersey couple Heather and John Tregidgo claim they were injured on the Tomorrowland attraction during a visit in June 2015, according to a lawsuit filed in late February in Orange County. The couple said they were riding the PeopleMover with their two children when it abruptly stopped in the dark Space Mountain section.

“After the cart containing the Tregidgo Family came to a stop it was struck from behind by a trailing cart,” the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit alleges Disney “carelessly and negligently maintained” the PeopleMover, creating a “dangerous” condition.

Heather Tregidgo, according to the lawsuit, suffered injuries that required hospitalization and surgery.

In a separate incident, Kristie Deieso said she was injured on the ride during a visit in February 2017. Deieso’s lawsuit, which was filed earlier this month, claims the ride malfunctioned, causing the vehicles to “crash into one another.”

Deieso received injuries that caused “pain and impairment,” the lawsuit said.

Open since 1975, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is a slow-moving tram that transports passengers in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. On the 10-minute ride, the maximum speed is about 7 mph, according to a Disney Parks Blog post from 2011.

  • Space Mountain Remains Closed at Disneyland After Man Climbs Off Ride in Motion

Space Mountain Remains Closed at Disneyland After Man Climbs Off Ride in Motion

UPDATE 02/01/19: Space Mountain reopened Friday after an inspection and initial investigation of Tuesday’s incident by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

    —— Original Story ——

Disneyland’s Space Mountain attraction remained closed Thursday following an incident two days earlier in which a man climbed off the roller coaster while it was in motion, officials said.

“He had to maneuver himself around the safety mechanism,” Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said, referring to the safety lap bar in each of the ride’s cars.

Anaheim police responded to the incident and administered aid to the unidentified man, reportedly in his 20s, who was said to have walked on his own to a first aid station within the park and appeared to be uninjured.

The man reportedly has cognitive disabilities and wiggled out of the moving ride while the rollercoaster was making its slow climb up, before dropping down into its many high-speed twists and turns, the Register reported.

Disney employees stopped the ride as soon as the man was discovered to have been missing.

According to Disney, park officials immediately contacted the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health to inspect the ride following the incident. The ride has remained closed during the investigation.

Park officials have called the incident “extremely rare.”

  • Disneyland Resort Celebrates 60 Years of ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Disneyland Resort Celebrates 60 Years of ‘Sleeping Beauty’

The gateway to Fantasyland—and the symbol of all the magic of Disneyland park—is Sleeping Beauty Castle. An opening day landmark since 1955, Sleeping Beauty Castle has the distinction of being named after a Disney heroine nearly four years before Sleeping Beauty appeared in her title film role 60 years ago in January 1959. In fact, “Sleeping Beauty” was still in its early stages of production when Disneyland park opened.

Sleeping Beauty Castle has the distinction of being named after a Disney heroine nearly four years before Sleeping Beauty appeared in her title film role 60 years ago in January 1959. In fact, “Sleeping Beauty” was still in its early stages of production when Disneyland park opened.

Over the years, the colors and finishes on Sleeping Beauty Castle have been refreshed and updated since Disney Legend and Imagineering Artist Herbert Ryman first created the concept illustration of the castle. Today, 60 years after the film “Sleeping Beauty” debuted, Sleeping Beauty Castle is undergoing another refurbishment through spring in preparation for this summer’s opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The refurbishment is part of Project Stardust—a number of enhancements to the Disneyland Resort, specifically Disneyland park, to continue to deliver a world-class guest experience. The enhancements will range from overall beautification of the theme park to maximizing guest comfort and access. When Project Stardust is complete, Disneyland park will remain the beloved icon and international treasure it is today, while preparing the theme park for its next phase of significant growth, starting with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where tradition meets a new frontier.

A number of efforts are already underway or completed. On Main Street, U.S.A., for example, curbs are being enhanced with slow inclines to help improve access when guests first enter. New brickwork adds to the storytelling of the iconic thoroughfare, and for the first time, the horse-drawn streetcar track was replaced in its entirety. In Fantasyland, reconfigured guest queues for Matterhorn Bobsleds, “it’s a small world” and Dumbo the Flying Elephant have improved guest access and comfort, while Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland now welcomes guests to a brand new area that was previously underutilized.

Throughout Disneyland park, the locations of planters and outdoor vending carts are being adjusted to make room for additional walking space and new, more efficient stroller areas. There also will be more seating in Disneyland park than ever before when Project Stardust is complete. We look forward to sharing more about these efforts and carrying forward Walt Disney’s vision for Disneyland park, while preparing it for future generations.

In the video below, Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine talks about the beautification of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
