  • Johnny Depp Reportedly Cast in Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice 2’

Johnny Depp Reportedly Cast in Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice 2’

After Johnny Depp lost his libel case in the UK, Disney and other studios began to back away from the famed Pirates of the Caribbean actor, but rumour has that long time friend Tim Burton might be the one to give the actor another shot with a role in Beetlejuice 2.

“Depp has had talks with his old friend to team up once again for a new project. He can’t say for sure right now what it might be, but he notes that one possibility is the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2,” insider Daniel Richtman claims.

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have a longstanding successful relationship when it comes to movies. This shared history might be one reason the director is willing to consider Depp in an upcoming film in spite of the latter’s recent woes. Through the years they’ve worked together on a total of eight films.

“If he manages to get one more good part, he could ostensibly come back,” indie producer Orian Williams said. “I would consider hiring him for the right role. You can question a lot, but you can’t ever question his talent.”

Disney had distanced itself from the 57-year-old actor even before his ‘wife beater’ libel trial in the UK, despite never formally severing ties according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR reveals Disney blocked Depp’s return to Pirate’s of the Caribbean. Citing producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s desire to include Depp in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, even if just in a cameo role to hand over the reins of the franchise to Robbie, the report says “Disney balked,” refusing to entertain the idea due to the reputation risk it would pose for the family-friendly media giant.

While fellow live-action remakes of Disney cartoons Mulan, Pinocchio and Peter Pan and Wendy have opted for streaming premieres, Disney still plans on Cruella making a theatrical debut despite earlier reports that Disney was considering sending Cruella to its Disney+ streaming platform.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, Joel Fry and Emily Beecham. It is scheduled to release in theaters on May 28.

The Internet is Freaking Out Over ‘Dinosaurs’ Coming to Disney+

“Not the Mama!” As we previously reported, Dinosaurs is coming to Disney+ and now Disney has officially announced, the classic ’90s sitcom is coming to the streaming service in January!

Set in the prehistoric era, the Jim Henson Productions puppet show initially ran on ABC from 1991 to 1994, was a series about the end of an entire species whixh has become a bit of a cult classic and was truly ahead of it’s time.

Disney+ revealed that all 65 episodes of the show will be available to stream on their service, starting January 29 as you can see in the post below:

Dinosaurs was a joint production between Michael Jacobs Productions and Jim Henson Television, with Walt Disney Television and Buena Vista International involved as well.

The show debuted in 1991 — one year after the death of Henson — and focused on the life of a family of anthropomorphic dinosaurs as they go about their daily lives and navigate the highs and lows of society and culture in 60,000,003 BC Pangaea.

  • The Walt Disney Company ‘Needs To Be Saved From Itself,’ Says Abigail Disney

The Walt Disney Company ‘Needs To Be Saved From Itself,’ Says Abigail Disney

Abigail Disney has opened up about her concerns surrounding the corporate policies of The Walt Disney Company again and she now says, Disney “Needs to be Saved From Itself.”

Disney has continually criticized the company’s compensation practices for senior executives and its treatment of lower-level employees.

Unlike most company shareholders, however, Disney has a personal connection to the entertainment giant, which was co-founded by her grandfather, Roy O. Disney, the brother of Walt.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s editor-at-large Kim Masters on KCRW’s The Business podcast, the Emmy-winning director says that Disney’s C-suite turnover and the novel coronavirus pandemic have only exacerbated her concerns around the company’s future.

“I don’t believe that the company and the magic can survive this kind of corporate behavior, I don’t think that the brand, as solid gold as it is, will last,” Disney says. “And it is the kind of brand that is so enormous and all-encompassing and people invest so much into it, I don’t think it will erode slowly, it will fall over like a great sequoia … I am a little bit about saving the company over the long term. I think the company needs to be saved from itself.”

At the very core of Disney’s concerns is the chasm between what the C-suite is paid and what the thousands of hourly and low-level Disney “castmembers” are paid.

“The high, high compensation at the top tends to come as a reward for pushing down compensation at the bottom,” she tells Masters. “When I try and draw a direct line between how the C-suite is paid and how the hourly workers are paid, when I try to draw a direct line between some of those things, I think they look at me like I am speaking in some kind of alien language, because to them that is the dumbest thing they have ever heard. To them there is no relationship between what we pay a line worker or a shift worker and what we pay Bob Iger.”

The pandemic has made those differences even more stark, with the company laying off tens of thousands of employees as many of its theme parks remain closed.

“Let’s not pretend that [employees that get laid off] go somewhere and disappear; they lose their houses, they are homeless, and they have to steal things to eat,” she says.

To hear Abigail Disney explain it, there is also a tug-of-war between the creativity that built the company’s brand, and a corporate ideology defined by business school best practices. And that something has changed over the past few decades to depress wages for workers at the same time that executives are seeing their compensation skyrocket.

“My grandfather made a lot of money, and he provided for me and my children of course, he wasn’t shy about taking compensation,” Disney says. “I’m not talking about ownership, I am saying are you willing to put everything you have up again and again and again, every single time, with the chance of losing everything, because that is what my grandfather did … He would never have taken a $66 million payday, never. And not because he was a perfect guy, but because it wasn’t done, it just wasn’t done.”

Disney was also surprised by the executive shakeup this year, with Bob Iger ceding the CEO title to Bob Chapek in February.

“There is no question it’s baffling, there is probably something to know in the fact that it was baffling, because he doesn’t do things that way,” Disney says. “[Iger] is a nice man and a great manager, I have nothing personal against him, but his strategy from day one was to buy Pixar, buy Lucasfilm, he was a purchaser of creativity which added and added to the machine.”

The appointment of Chapek only sharpened her criticism.

“It was extremely disappointing to see a person who never held a creative job in his life take over the company,” Disney added. “It is just a business, it is the deli, they are selling salami, and they are slicing it as thin as they can possibly slice it, because they are not making any more salami.”

And while some hold out hope that a Biden administration could seek to reverse some of the corporate-friendly policies instituted by the Trump administration, Disney remains unconvinced.

‘Sister Act 3’ Officially In Development, with Whoopi Goldberg Returning to Star

During Disney’s Investor Day event, the studio confirmed that Sister Act 3 is officially in development and Whoopi Goldberg set to reprise her iconic role.

The View co-host played Deloris, a lounge singer who joins a convent after being placed in a witness protection program to stay away from a pimp.

The film, which follows 1992’s Sister Act and 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, will debut on Disney+. Disney took to Twitter to make the announcement after the investors meeting as you can see below:

Goldberg, 65, has long advocated for another Sister Act installment, teasing the possibility of a third film in October.

“For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it,” Goldberg said. “And then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it.”

The announcement of the third installment, with Perry at the helm, gained widespread attention online. Perry, the creative force behind 22 movies, 20 plays and eight TV shows, built a 330-acre movie studio complex in Atlanta last year.

  • Disney Blocked Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean Return

Disney Blocked Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean Return

Disney blocked Johnny Depp from making a returning cameo appearance to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise according to a recent report.

The studio had distanced itself from the 57-year-old actor even before his ‘wife beater’ libel trial in the UK, despite never formally severing ties according to The Hollywood Reporter.

THR reveals Disney blocked Depp’s return. Take a look at the relevant paragraph below:

    The paragraph in question reads:

Disney had already backed away from a Pirates future with Depp well before the U.K. trial, even if it never formally severed ties. Bruckheimer, who has been one of Depp’s biggest champions and once suggested the finger injury happened because “he got it caught in a car door,” was hoping to at least bring the Captain Jack Sparrow character back briefly in the next outing — said to be a female-centric incarnation fronted by Margot Robbie. Disney balked.

There have already been multiple petitions signed by more than a million fans online, that have demanded Depp be reinstated in his role as Sparrow.

Meanwhile, in the same article it was reported that Depp had tried to keep his wife Heard from starring in the 2018 action film Aquaman, with the actor allegedly attempting to have her replaced from the movie.

When a blight strikes her island, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, in the hope of returning the relic to Te Fiti and saving her people.

The Moana series was announced with a number of other animated series in development for the streaming platform, including the Big Hero 6 spinoff Baymax!Tiana, and Zootopia+ as you can see in the post below:

The Moana animated series will reportedly follow the titular spirited voyagers as she once again ventures beyond the safety of her Polynesian island home of Motunui, and will see Walt Disney Animation bringing in storytellers from Moana’s home region of the Pacific Islands in order to faithfully continue to tell authentic stories of wayfinding and other traditions brought to life for generations through oral storytelling.

The Moana sequel is set to come to Disney+ sometime in 2023.

  • ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Offcially Confirmed for Disney+

‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Offcially Confirmed for Disney+

During Disney’s Investor Day event, the studio confirmed that a new sequel to the 1993 Disney classic “Hocus Pocus” will be running amok amok amok on Disney+

Earlier this year in October, Bette Midler — who starred alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witches who are accidentally resurrected on Halloween in the film — revealed in an interview with that she, Parker, 55, and Najimy, 63, have all agreed to star in the highly anticipated sequel.

Disney also shared the news on their twitter account as you can see below:

“They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes,” Midler, 75, said at the time. “I’m game, I’m totally game.”

In the original film, “After moving to Salem, Mass., teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.”

Although casting has not yet been confirmed for the sequel, Midler previously said the original cast was interested in returning to their iconic roles. They recently brought their characters back to life for a virtual fundraising event in October – yes, it even included a performance of I Put A Spell On You.

Harrison Ford to Return to Indiana Jones for Fifth and Final Movie

Disney said on Friday that the movie would be produced by its production arm Lucasfilm and released in July 2022, and that “Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue his iconic character’s journey.”

The entertainment giant also confirmed the news in an investor presentation, tweeting the movie was currently in “pre-production,” as you can see below:

In a 2013 interview, Harrison Ford said it was “perfectly appropriate” for him to return as the adventurer .

“We’ve seen the character develop and grow over a period of time and it’s perfectly appropriate and OK for him to come back again with a great movie around him,” he said at the time, stressing that Indiana Jones did not have to be so action-orientated.

Directed by James Mangold, the latest installment, slated for July 2022, will be released on Disney+.
