  • FuelRod Swapping Fee Reversed After Lawsuit Filed

FuelRod Swapping Fee Reversed After Lawsuit Filed

A class-action lawsuit has been been filed against the FuelRod company because the portable chargers that could once be swapped for free at the theme parks would now cost a fee.

Following the filing of the lawsuit, the decision to charge for swaps was reversed until further notice, so for the time being guests can continue to swap the chargers for free.

Disney has released a statement stating that “A decision has been made to not implement the $3 portable charger swap fee until further notice. Guests can continue to swap their FuelRod portable chargers using FuelRod’s owned and operated kiosks at Walt Disney World Resort for no additional cost at this time.”

Gabriel Veasey of Sarasota filed the lawsuit that is seeking $5 million in damages on Oct. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego. The lawsuit is against Tricopian Inc. and SaveMe Batteries North America, the parent companies of FuelRod portable chargers, according to the OC Register.

Veasey was upset that he bought a $30 FuelRod portable charger at Walt Disney World that came with the promise of “free unlimited swaps” at a kiosk machine, according to the report. Now, the swap would cost $3 starting Nov. 1.

“The price of the device is intended to cover not just the cost of the charger itself, it also essentially includes prepayment for the future swaps of the charger and the ability to get an essentially endless stream of portable power,” the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit says there could be thousands of potential class-action plaintiffs.

  • FuelRod Swapping Will No Longer Be Free at Walt Disney Parks

FuelRod Swapping Will No Longer Be Free at Walt Disney Parks

Disney Parks introduced FuelRods back in several years ago as a reusable, portable charging system that allows you to charge your mobile device on the go, and then swap for a fresh one free of charge and now they will still be offering the service, but it will no longer be free.

FuelRods will still be charging at Disney Parks, but now they will be charging your pocket book as well as your phone. For $30, you can purchase a portable phone charging system at kiosks located throughout Walt Disney World Resort. Previously you could always recharge it yourself or swap it for a fully fueled unit for free, but now the swapping will cost you a fee.

With the simple swipe of a credit card you get a portable charging unit capable of delivering up to 8 hours of additional talk time on the average smart phone, or nearly 4 additional hours of usage on the most demanding of tablets.

“The FuelRod is the latest technology in portable charging technology with the highest energy density on the market,” according to their website.

According to signage on all FuelRod kiosks in the Magic Kingdom, Fuel Rod swaps will cost $3 starting on November 1st, 2019. Both Disney World and Disneyland will both be charging.

Church Leader Allegedly Used Embezzled Funds to Buy Club 33 Membership

Charles T. Sebesta, the former leader of the Los Angeles Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist has been accused by Federal agents from the Department of Justice of using some of the $11 million he siphoned from the church to buy, among other things, a membership in to Disneyland’s exclusive Club 33 restaurant.

Club 33, which is inside Disneyland, is one of the most expensive restaurants in the world, with an initial initiation fee of $25,000 and an annual membership fee of $10,000. Sebesta reportedly used his membership in the Club to woo entertainment and sports executives.

Sebesta kept up this charade over a decade, working his way up through the ranks of the Fifth Church of Christ, Christ and then using his position as a Chairman to forge checks and draw in close to $11.5 million.

There is no word yet on what his sentence will be, or if he’ll have to give up that coveted Club 33 Membership!

  • TSA Bans “Thermal Detonator” Coke Bottles From Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

TSA Bans “Thermal Detonator” Coke Bottles From Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

If your looking to board your flight after your trip to Disneyland or Disney World then this is NOT the souvenir you’re looking for. The Transportation Security Administration has banned the Star Wars-themed Coke bottles from flights because it looks like an explosive.

The bottles are one of the many exclusive items sold at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Even though they are just a bottle to hold a refreshing soda, they still resemble the grenade-like explosive seen in the Star Wars movies — specifically in Return of the Jedi when Princess Leia, disguised as the Ubese hunter Boushh, threatens to blow up Jabba the Hutt’s barge with one.

In response to a question, the TSA indicated on Twitter that Star Wars-themed Coke bottles are banned from checked and carry-on luggage, saying, “Replica and inert explosives aren’t allowed in either carry-on or checked bags,” as you can see in the post below:

Fans became enamored with these plastic bottles even before the California iteration of Galaxy’s Edge opened in May. Many have collected the bottles and brought them home from the park to display on shelves or, in some cases, turn into Christmas tree ornaments.

At $5.49, the bottles are one of the cheapest souvenirs available at Galaxy’s Edge — and popular: Disney has limited guests to three bottles per transaction to prevent hoarding. But with the TSA’s new policy, that may no longer be a problem. Disney PR declined to comment on the TSA decision; Cola-Cola and TSA could not be reached for comment.
