  • Is the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser as good as Disney wants you to believe?

Is the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser as good as Disney wants you to believe?

Disney’s new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is the next level of immersive storytelling. But is it a good as Disney wants you to believe? After our media preview yesterday, I would say the answer is a resounding; Yes!

First of all, this isn’t just a “Star Wars themed Hotel.” This is an extremely immersive storytelling experience that you get the pleasure of spending two nights in. Have you ever wanted to work side-by-side with Stormtroopers to thwart Resistance Rebels? Help break Chewbacca out of the Brig? Get to train with a Lightsaber? If the answer to any of those is yes, then a voyage on the Halcyon would be a dream come true.

We got the Highlight Reel for this media event, so I won’t be walking you through every part of the experience. Besides, your experience won’t be like anyone else’s. This is a real life Choose Your Own Adventure. You could take two, or even three voyages, and have a different experience each time! Take a upclose look at all the details below:

The Crown of Corellia Dining Room

Everyone’s voyage starts as you board a transport shuttle and dock with the Halcyon in space. When the doors open you’re in the ship’s opulent Atrium. Seating areas covered in dark red velvet, gleaming lights reflecting off the polished floor. This is a side of Star Wars we haven’t seen represented at Disney before. Think the posh setting of Canto Bight, or Senator Padme Amidala’s wardrobe in the prequels. No dirty, worn surfaces, or recycled junk aboard the this glamorous Starcruiser.

During a welcome ceremony you’ll be introduced to the characters who will be traveling with you, including the cruise director and the captain. The Crew stays with you for the whole voyage so you’re able to form relationships.

    Rooms

The rooms are small, with furniture made to tuck away.

And speaking of your cabin, let’s talk about sentient droids for a minute. In each room is a panel where you can interact with D3-O9, an AI driven character experience that Disney is testing. She’s been on the ship since it was built. She knows ship gossip, and she wants to talk to you. She might fill you in when things happen aboard the ship, like I don’t know, the First Order coming aboard!

    Food

Like a traditional cruise, food is included on your journey aboard the Halcyon.
Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. Dinners for your two nights aboard are very different. The Dining Room isn’t huge, so when you book your voyage you’ll get to pick an early or later seating.

The first dinner is very showy, with a performance by the galactic superstar, Gaya.
For the second dinner, which is a sampling of dishes from all over the galaxy, the chef comes to talk about the food.

    Merchandise

Don’t have the right clothes for an off-world trip? Looking for just the right souvenir to remember your voyage? The Chandrila Collection boutique located inside the Atrium will have just what you need. There’s something for every Star Wars fan.

Elegant yet subtle jewelry that you could wear back home on Earth. Backpacks, patchescostumes that were designed after Imagineers visited Skywalker Ranch, a Captain’s outfit for younglings, and so much more.

    How to Interact

Your “Datapad,” or Play Disney App on your cell phone, will play a big part in this immersive cruise. It’s where you’ll see your itinerary; which can change depending on what choices you’ve made on board and on Batuu. Maybe while helping the cruise director you let it slip that you’re sympathetic to the Rebel Cause. Now she’s sending you a message asking for your help retrieving some Coaxium on your shore excursion to Black Spire Outpost. Family members can also take different paths with some helping Resistance Rebels and others helping the First Order.

    Role Playing

During the media tour we got to experience a bit of the story line for the First Order and the Resistance. The path you choose while you’re aboard will effect what experiences you encounter.

We participated in some First Order sabotage in Engineering where we had to work together with other passengers.

We trained on the bridge. You get to try out all the stations including weapons, shields, and systems.

Do you have to be a massive Star Wars fan to enjoy the Galactic Starcruiser? No. As long as you enjoy good storytelling about good vs. evil, and maybe like to engage in some role playing, you’ll have an amazing experience. The Halcyon includes several new characters, so all the passengers are getting to know them. It’s pretty easy to tell who is a bad guy and who is a good guy. The story-line for this adventure is set between Episodes 8 and 9, but you don’t need to see all the movies to jump into the fun. There’s always the invitation to engage, to go deeper into the story, but never a push.

I would say guests on the Halycon will be getting an out of this world, immersive experience. I’m going to book my next voyage right now!

  • Tower of Terror Movie in the Works at Disney

Tower of Terror Movie in the Works at Disney

A Tower of Terror movie based on the Disney Parks attraction is in the works at Disney according to reports.

36-year-old actress Scarlett Johansson is set to produce the new film and Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley is penning the script for the project based on the classic Disney theme park ride.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, and it is unclear if the Oscar nominee would act in the project as well. Johansson is producing via her These Pictures banner with Jonathan Lia.

First introduced in 1994, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a drop-in-the-dark ride based on the classic television series of the same name.

Host Rod Serling narrates the experience, in which guests weave through a queue inside the fictional Hollywood Tower Hotel before boarding an elevator that “travels directly to … The Twilight Zone.”

In 1997 Walt Disney Television produced a TV film based on Tower of Terror starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst. It was Disney’s first film based on its theme park locations. Since then, however, Disney has produced films based on attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Tomorrowland, and Haunted Mansion.

  • Frozen Sing-Along Returning to Hollywood Studios

Frozen Sing-Along Returning to Hollywood Studios

“For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration,” is returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration is a musical show based on Disney’s 2013 animated film Frozen and the songs from the film, located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Shanghai Disneyland Park. It was also formerly hosted at Disney California Adventure, Disneyland Park in Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

Beginning Monday, October 5, you can once again join Erik and Aria, the Royal Historians of Arendelle, for their comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from Disney’s “Frozen” and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff.

Disney said is a blog post that the Frozen Sing-Along “will be the same incredible show guests have loved for the past six years, with some adjustments to staging and audience seating to allow for appropriate physical distancing.”

The show originally premiered at the Premiere Theater in the Streets of America section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios during the 2014 Frozen Summer Fun on July 5, 2014. The show moved into its current location at the Hyperion Theater in Echo Lake on June 17, 2015, the former home of The American Idol Experience.

  • New Socially-Distanced Disney Junior Dance Party Show Debuts at Disney World

New Socially-Distanced Disney Junior Dance Party Show Debuts at Disney World

After a disagreement with the Actors’ Equity Association, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has debuted a new modified version of the Disney Junior Dance Party.

The new show is called “Disney Junior Play & Dance!” It is shorter in length and has social distancing measures in place. Once inside, you’ll see markers on the floor for each party to stand on and dance around called “party zones.”

This modified show brings DJ DeeJay along with Doc McStuffins, Timon, Vampirina, and Roadster Mickey Mouse in a new, high-energy dance jam.

The new show is a result of an ongoing battle between Disney and the Actors’ Equity union. The show now features only non-equity performers, despite many of the equity performers speaking out against the union and willing to return to work.

Performances will take place approximately every 30 minutes throughout the day beginning at 11:15am located in the Animation Courtyard.

  • Epcot and Hollywood Studios Reopen Today at Disney World

Epcot and Hollywood Studios Reopen Today at Disney World

Today, Disney’s Epcot and Hollywood Studios park opened their doors to guests for the first time since they closed on March 15.

Disney World has been implementing important updates to promote enhanced cleaning, physical distancing and reduced contact.

Attendance is currently limited and managed via the Disney Parks Pass reservation system, face coverings are required for all guests (ages 2 and up) and temperature screenings are required for entry.

Hollywood Studios is the only one of the four parks to reach its reservation capacity for opening day in Disney’s new park reservation system. As of Thursday morning, it was booked and unavailable for the next eight days. None of the other parks have hit reservation capacity yet for any single day.

The reopening of Epcot and Hollywood Studios also comes at a busy time for the global entertainment giant: Disneyland Paris in France opened earlier today while Disneyland Hong Kong had to close just shy of a month after reopening because of a surge of Covid-19 cases there.

Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom opened on July 11.

  • Virtual Queue System Returns to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for Disney World Reopening

Virtual Queue System Returns to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for Disney World Reopening

Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopens on July 15 and in order to help maintain appropriate physical distancing, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will once again be using the virtual queue system.

If you’ve joined the Resistance before, you will want to note a few changes to the process beginning July 15. Most importantly – as availability allows – guests will have an opportunity at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. to request to join the virtual queue. This means there is no need to arrive early to the park to check the virtual queue.

Whether it’s your first trip to Batuu or you have joined the fight against the First Order before, there are a few important details to know before you arrive:

    • First, make sure you have the My Disney Experience app. Once you enter the park, log in to your account at one of the distribution times (10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m.).
    • Once you have logged in, select “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue” on the home screen. You will be able to view the current status and next steps for joining the virtual queue.
    • The app will indicate when there is no availability for a specific distribution time. Some guests may join backup groups.
    • As long as your My Disney Experience account is linked to park tickets for you and the others in your group, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time. In order to give as many guests as possible the opportunity to join the Resistance, each guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day.
    • Make sure push notifications are turned on for My Disney Experience so you will be alerted if your group is called to return. You’ll have up to an hour from the time of the alert to go to the entrance of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
    • Please note that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
