  • ‘Black Panther’ Sails Past ‘Titanic’ To Third Highest Grossing U.S. Film All Time

‘Black Panther’ Sails Past ‘Titanic’ To Third Highest Grossing U.S. Film All Time

Marvel’s “Black Panther” is still clawing its way into the record books. This weekend the film passed director James Cameron’s “Titanic” becoming the third highest-grossing U.S. film of all time.

“Titanic” was once king at the box office and it sat as the number one highest grossing domestic film of all time for nearly a decade. The film held onto the spot until it was surpassed by Cameron’s next blockbuster film “Avatar” ($760.5m) and both were eventually passed by Disney’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936.6m), which still currently holds the number one spot in the U.S. Well there is a new cat in town and the king of Wakanda just sank “Titanic”.

On Saturday, The Ryan Coogler-directed film starring Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan and Danai Gurira finished with a domestic total of $665.3 million which easily passed “Titanic” which sits at $659.5 million. After Sundays numbers post it will have a strong hold on third place. These numbers are lifetime totals as the film had already had taken the third spot domestically by Friday if you consider initial release gross earnings.

Marvel’s ground breaking film — which has been hailed not only for Coogler’s exceptional world building and layered story but also for its virtually all-black cast of superstars — overtook Marvel’s Avengers to become the biggest-selling superhero film of all time.

“Black Panther” had enough steam to pass “Titanic”, but likely won’t be able to pass “Avatar”. This is still a huge feat for the superhero flick though as “Titanic” was ranked in the top three for two decades.

The only thing that stands a chance at dethroning “Black Panther” from the third spot in the near future is the upcoming release of “Avengers Infinity War” on April 27, 2018. Experts predict that “Infinity War” will bringing between $175 million and $200 million during its first weekend, but that is still less than the $202 million “Black Panther” brought in.

“Black Panther” banked $202 million opening weekend landing fifth-place on the all-time charts. Still at this point “Black Panther” remains Marvel’s highest domestic-grossing film ever and it’s also the tenth highest movie of all time in worldwide sales with $1.29 billion globally.

If “Infinity War” does surpass “Black Panther”, you can bet some of those ticket sales will be from people there to see their new favorite actor Chadwick Boseman reprise his role as Black Panther and Avenger where the world of Wakanda has a pivotal role in the film as The Avengers try to stop Thanos from completing his set of Infinity Stones.

Including the films that would be under Disney’s banner with the recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney already owns seven of the top ten worldwide highest grossing films of all time and now with this new milestone they own all of the top three highest grossing domestic films.

  • Breaking: Hollywood Studios Getting Marvel Land As Disney Regains East Coast Marvel Rights Iger Revealed at Shareholder Meeting

Breaking: Hollywood Studios Getting Marvel Land As Disney Regains East Coast Marvel Rights Iger Revealed at Shareholder Meeting

The largest hurdle Disney World has had to overcome in bringing more Marvel attractions to its parks, other than those based on franchises like “Guardians of the Galaxy“, is the fact that Universal Studios owns the east coast rights to most of the Marvel lineup. Well in a shocking turn of events, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced at the most recent shareholders meeting that Disney has negotiated a deal to bring the rights home to Disney and they will officially be adding a Marvel Land to Hollywood Studios.

“We think this will be a good thing. Marvel belongs home with Disney and we now have the opportunity to tell the stories of these characters in way like only Disney can.” Iger said.  The audience laughed as he joked, “It’s always a little odd when you have to rent back your own property from someone who is renting it from you.” The deal is quite intricate he explained and there are no details on how exactly it was worked out. This comes on the heels of a recent announcement that Disneyland Parks around the globe are already getting Marvel themed lands and now Disney World wont be left out on the super hero action!

He was tight-lipped about some of the upcoming changes, but he did drop some bombs on what the future of Hollywood Studios will look like with the addition of Marvel Land. First and what will probably be most up setting for fans is that the area will be located around the Tower of Terror area where just like in California, the attraction will be converted to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Iger made the announcement as he unveiled the only piece of concept art that he used during his speech as you can see in the photo below:

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!

The ride is expected to be operational by late 2020, well before construction for Marvel Land is complete. “The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Hollywood Studios”, Iger said.

There will be a Marvel themed restaurant, of course multiple retail locations, and other attractions, but the only other attraction change Iger mentioned during the meeting was Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.  The contract with Aerosmith was renewed not too long ago and it’s always a question of if they will continue renewing. Well I guess we have our answer, because in a statement that Iger let Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek deliver, he said, “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be transformed into an Ironman themed coaster that will immerse guests in a fantastic new thrilling adventure like never before.”

Iger said that the project can be expected to be fully completed by 2022 and those rides that will be getting overhauls will remain open for as long as possible to minimize the impact on guests during construction of new addition of Marvel Land. Work will begin on Tower of Terror first and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close temporarily while construction on the entire new land begins.

Fans have already been lighting up the internet as they are upset about the changing of more classic rides and it didn’t take long for the petitions to begin either. Change is hard and if you have loved Hollywood Studios since the day it opened in 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios, then this might be a hard one for you, but this is a change that is necessary for “Disney’s vision of the park’s future” Iger said in his final words at the meeting.

Walt Disney himself knew that his parks would continue to change and evolve. “As long as there is imagination left in the world”, said Walt. He also believed in a good laugh and a good joke so we hope you enjoyed this one. Happy April Fools Day…  Oh yeah and Happy Easter. If anyone happens to be upset that the news isn’t true, don’t worry, there are Marvel Lands that are going to be popping up at nearly every other Disney Park on the Planet.  And if you can’t make it out of Florida, we actually have our own Marvel Land right here…  at Universal Studios. 🙂

Explosive New Avengers: Infinity War Trailer Just Released

Disney has just released the final trailer for Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and it doesn’t disappoint. The new latest installment of the franchise directed by Anthony and Joe Russo is jam-packed with heroes and action and like the first trailer, it promises death and destruction.

The newest trailer has all the avengers in it, old and new, as they mount their epic battle against Josh Brolin’s villain Thanos.

“The entire time I knew him, he only ever had one goal: to wipe out half the universe. If he gets all the Infinity Stones, he can do it with the snap of his fingers,” Zoe Saldana’s Gamora says. Take a look at the amazing trailer for the film below.

Tickets for the film also went on sale today. They can be purchased from Fandango or from specific theater chains now.

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Originally the film was slated to open in May but the date was changed a few weeks back after an epic Twitter exchange between Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. Were sure you have the date marked on your calendars.

They also dropped a brand new movie poster to mark the occasion.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson, along with Avengers newcomers Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman and Tessa Thompson. The Guardians of the Galaxy, lead by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, will also be joining the fun.

With a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Infinity War is produced by Kevin Feige, with exec producers Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee.

“Avengers: Infinity War” opens in theaters on April 27.

  • ‘Black Panther’ Claws It’s Way Past $1 Billion World Wide

‘Black Panther’ Claws It’s Way Past $1 Billion World Wide

‘Black Panther’ has dominated at the box office from the moment it was released. Marvel’s newest super hero flick has passed the $1 Billion mark world-wide less than a month after hitting theaters.

The studio said Saturday that the milestone is based on Disney’s estimate of ticket sales. The announcement comes on the 26th day of release for the blockbuster. Signs of the film’s success were good from the start – Black Panther more than doubled the amount it was predicted to take in the US and Canada over its opening weekend.

It is the fifth Marvel film to hit $1 Billion world-wide joining “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3,” and “Captain America: Civil War” and it is also the 16th Disney film to do it as well.

“Black Panther” has grossed $521 million domestically, making it the ninth-highest release of all time. In its fourth weekend, “Black Panther” is heading for a $40 million-plus weekend, which would make it the No. 2 superhero release of all time over “The Dark Knight’s” $535 million.

‘Black Panther’ follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman as the titular hero, and Michael B. Jordan as lead villain.

  • If Robert Downey Jr. Wants Infinity War Release Date Moved Up Then It Happens

If Robert Downey Jr. Wants Infinity War Release Date Moved Up Then It Happens

When you have clout like Robert Downey Jr. you get anything you ask for. There certainly ain’t no strings on him and it seems he is the one pulling the strings here. So if Iron Man wants to see Avengers: Infinity War a week early then Marvel changes the release date.

Disney recently announced a re-shuffling of their upcoming film release dates and the Avengers Infinity War release date has been moved up from its initial May 4 date to April 27, 2018.

With just three months until Infinity War was slated to hit theaters, Marvel Studios has bumped up the release date for all at the request of Mr. Robert Downey Jr. himself.

Below you’ll find a series of tweets between Downey Jr. and the studio.

Okay so it’s all in good fun and a hilarious and very effective marketing scheme. But Avengers: Infinity War is already one of the most anticipated movies of 2018 and Robert Downey Jr. and the entire world he is taking with him to see the movie are jumping for joy over the earlier release date.

The move probably makes sense as it would have been going up against Deadpool 2 on May 18 and Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25. With its earlier release date on April 27, Infinity War’s  gets a little more time to rake in the box office cash before these to films hit theaters.

  • Disney Streaming Service Will Not Include R-Rated Content

Disney Streaming Service Will Not Include R-Rated Content

Disney’s upcoming streaming service is moving full steam ahead and more details are starting to emerge about what types of content the service will offer. Last August Disney announced plans to debut its own streaming service in 2019 with content like Star Wars and Marvel movies, Disney studio and Pixar films.

The programming for the over-the-top content service will be consistent with the Disney brand and there will be no R-rated films, according to a recent report from Deadline. So Marvel’s series currently on Netflix will stay where they are for now, and any R-rated content will reportedly go to Hulu instead of the Disney streaming service.

As we previously reported, Disney-ABC TV will providing original content for the service that would include feature-length films regular series and he also touted a “High School Musical” reboot, with the original producers on board.

Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Bob Iger already confirmed a live action Star Wars Series and a TV series based on the 2001 Pixar film Monsters Inc. were in the plans for the future streaming service, at a quarterly earnings call with investors.

Disney is also reportedly prioritizing new movies, including Lady and the Tramp, The Paper Magician, Stargirl and Togo. Other projects in development are 3 Men and a Baby, Sword and the Stone, and Timmy Failure, according to the report.

Also be heading to the streaming service will be Magic Camp and Noelle, two movies currently in post-production. The shows may cost $25 million to $35 million for 10 episodes, though a more ambitious series could go up to $100 million, the report said.

There has been no mention of a price point as of yet and the Disney plans to start with a domestic service only, and then expand overseas.

New Ant-Man Attraction Coming to Hong Kong Disneyland

A thrilling new Marvel attraction is coming to Hong Kong Disneyland and Guests at D23 Expo Japan 2018 this past weekend got a sneak peek at some of the new concept art and it looks amazing. The as yet unnamed ride is based on Marvel characters Ant-Man and the Wasp.

    Marvel Ant-Man Hong Kong

The attraction will basically be an overlay on Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters which closed back in August.  It will be using the same infrastructure and ride system but will instead be based on the Ant-Man films.

In the new attraction, guests will join Ant-Man and The Wasp to fight Arnim Zola and his army of Hydra swarm bots. This will be the second Marvel ride-through attraction experience guests can only have at Hong Kong Disneyland – including the new Iron Man Experience, already the most popular attraction – and just one part of the resort’s multi-year expansion plan through 2023, which will also include an entire Marvel-themed area.

    Marvel Ant-Man Hong Kong

Hong Kong Disneyland kicked off construction of the multi-year park transformation last October, and guests will soon see the first new experience open in May with the introduction of a brand new stage show in Adventureland, “Moana: A Homecoming Celebration” featuring the newest heroine from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Construction has also begun on the transformation of the castle, which will feature a new daytime show and nighttime spectacular. The expansion will also add an all-new, immersive “Frozen”-themed area where guests will experience new attractions and entertainment, including meeting the royal sisters Elsa and Anna.
