  • “Willow” Sequel Talks Confirmed By Director Ron Howard

“Willow” Sequel Talks Confirmed By Director Ron Howard

Ron Howard will be leaving his mark on a galaxy far far away when “Solo: A Star Wars Story” hits theaters next week, but Howard has worked with Lucasfilm before.  Back in 1988, Howard directed the epic fantasy film “Willow” and now he has confirmed that there have actually been discussions on making a sequel to the cult classic.

Nearly three decades to the day later, Howard is talking about the possibility of a sequel and what direction the potential film might go in. Howard reveals that the story for the sequel would focus on the character Elora Danan, the infant that Willow comes across in the original film.

“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow. We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.” Howard told ComicBook.com in a recent interview.

George Lucas produced the film which starred Val Kilmer as the mercenary Madmartigan and Warwick Davis as Willow. Davis played the eponymous lead character and hero: a reluctant farmer who plays a critical role in protecting a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her and take over the world.

In the interview Howard also said that experience informed a lot of his decisions while working on the Han Solo spinoff movie.

“I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scenes, especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff, was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo.”

Of course there is no word yet on if these talks will actually lead to film development, but for fans of the film its great news. Howard has teased a Willow sequel in the past, but with the slew of remakes and reboots that Hollywood is seeing it seems like the timing couldn’t be better. The film was anything but a flop as it raked more than $57 million at the box office domestically. It’s a classic 80’s movie and if you haven’t seen it then you should check it out.

For now while we ponder if this fantasy will become a reality, fans can see Howard’s latest film Solo: A Star Wars Story in theaters on May 25th.

  • Dwayne The Rock Johnson Signs Biggest Contract of His Career for Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Dwayne The Rock Johnson Signs Biggest Contract of His Career for Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Dwayne The Rock Johnson maybe the highest paid actor in the world, but he still gets nervous just like everyone else. The Rock posted a video on social media that shows him about to sign what he says is “the biggest contract of my career” for Jungle Cruise.

He confirms the movie will begin filming next week in the video, but it also shows the super star standing next to a huge contract, both metaphorically and physically. You can see in the video below The Rock is visibly nervous while he is talking about it and he explains that it is because “about 15 years ago i dreamed of this moment.  I saw the first trailer for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean and I thought man one day I would love to make a movie for Disney”

He talks about Walt Disney who was the very first Jungle Cruise skipper and doing everything in his DNA to make a movie that would make Walt proud.

The film is a live-action adaptation of Disneyland’s iconic theme park ride which takes guests on a guided tour through Africa’s Nile and Congo rivers to South America’s Amazon. Disney hopes to develop the film as a possible franchise much like its billion-dollar “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

Jungle Cruise the movie takes place in the early 20th century and follows riverboat captain Frank (Johnson) as he takes a scientist (Emily Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a journey to find a mystical tree in South America. Edgar Ramírez and Jesse Plemons costar as a pair of villains who, naturally, want the film’s magical MacGuffin for themselves and compete with Frank in the race to find the tree first.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the movie based on the classic theme park attraction and “Logan” writer Michael Green penned the most recent draft of the script, rewritten from screenplay by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Pretty much everything Johnson touches turns to box office gold. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” which starred Johnson grossed almost $1 billion worldwide and “Rampage” opened to No. 1 at the box office, grossing $155 million worldwide.  With this mega star leading the cast, Disney may just get the next franchise behemoth they are looking for.

  • Annette Bening Joining Cast Of ‘Captain Marvel’

Annette Bening Joining Cast Of ‘Captain Marvel’

Four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening is appearing in her first superhero movie. The famed actress is joining Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios’ first female-led feature film.

Some reports have her playing the role of Captain Marvel’s mother, Marie Danvers while other reports have her playing the role of an as yet unknown scientist, but at this point Marvel isn’t giving out any details.

The Marvel film is being helmed by Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck while Kevin Feige is producing. Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent script, with “Inside Out” scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts.

The film stars Larson as the titular character Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who is thrust into an intergalactic adventure after her DNA is fused with that of an alien. Although the solo movie is set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel got a major tease for those who stayed for the after credits scene in Avengers: Infinity War.

The cast already includes Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and Gemma Chan, as well as Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, with the latter pair reprising their characters from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The film hits theaters on March 8, 2019.

  • Disney Announces More ‘Avengers’ Movies Could Happen And New Marvel Franchises

Disney Announces More ‘Avengers’ Movies Could Happen And New Marvel Franchises

After the worldwide and record-breaking success of “Avengers: Infinity War,” more “Avengers” movies could still be made Disney announced on Tuesday.

Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger discussed the future of the franchise beyond Phase 3 with analysts in a recent earnings call. Iger told analysts that next year’s “Avengers 4” would have a “significant conclusion”, but still hinted at a future for the Avengers Franchise.

“Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude that there will never be another ‘Avengers’ movie.” Iger said.

Although next year’s “Avengers 4” is being billed as the end of the journey for many of Marvel Studios’ favorite heroes, it still won’t be the end of the Avengers. “There’s certainly a lot more stories to tell, a lot more characters to populate those stories with,” Iger said.

Bringing together more than 20 Marvel superheroes, “Avengers: Infinity War” set a new box office opening weekend record for North America raking in more than $250 million at the box office. The film also set the record for the fastest film to cross the $1 billion mark and it achieved that milestone in just 11 days.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo shot the as yet untitled follow-up back-to-back with “Infinity War.” There have been no details released on the plot of the film which is due to be released in May 2019.

Iger also teased the MCU future with what he called a “franchise beyond Avengers”, noting that there were some 7,000 characters in the Marvel universe that could be explored in film.

All this came after Disney announced quarterly profits that were above Wall Street expectations in large part because of the success of Marvel’s “Black Panther”. Disney has two other Marvel movies already set to be released within the next year – “Ant-Man and the Wasp” in July, and “Captain Marvel” in March 2019.

  • ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Is Fastest Ever To $1 Billion at Global Box Office

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Is Fastest Ever To $1 Billion at Global Box Office

“Avengers: Infinity War” marks yet another milestone this weekend crossing $1 billion worldwide at the box office in just 11 days, becoming the fastest film to reach that mark. The global gross through Friday is $974.5 million.

“Infinity War” will take in around $122 million domestically this weekend which will push it over the $1 billion mark when you include international totals. Marvel’s Black panther also recently hit that milestone and making this Marvel’s sixth films to hit $1 billion, and the 17th Disney production to cross that threshold as well.

Last weekend Marvel’s newest superhero flick raked in an estimated total of $258.2 million at the US box office over the weekend, blasting past “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” by almost $11 million, with the snap of a finger, making it the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time.

The film stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman, and Zoe Saldana just to name a few. They reunite two years after the events of “Captain America: Civil War” for “Infinity War,” which also stars Josh Brolin as Thanos, the intergalactic force bent on destruction. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the film which was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

  • ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Smashes ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Opening Weekend Record

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Smashes ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Opening Weekend Record

Superheros win battles and the battle for box office records has just begun for “Avengers: Infinity War”.  Since its release on Friday, the film soared passed predictions and expectations as “Infinity War” broke both the domestic opening-weekend box office record and the worldwide opening record.

Marvel’s newest superhero flick raked in an estimated total of $258.2 million at the US box office over the weekend, blasting past “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” by almost $11 million with the snap of a finger.

Hulk smash! And even though the green guy barely made an appearance in the movie, “Infinity War” smashes too! More records that is… The newest addition to the MCU franchise brought in $640.9 million worldwide over the weekend making it the highest grossing global opening of all time, beating out “Fate of the Furious” by almost $90 million.

The film was perfectly positioned to have an opening weekend of galactic proportions when you factor in the fact that the movie is 10 years in the making and the culmination of 18 films previously released by Marvel Studios, all tied together for this latest film against the galaxy’s biggest threat yet, the mad titan, Thanos.

“Marvel spent 10 years methodically and carefully creating a universe of characters, worlds and stories that all led to this and, in doing so, created an event unlike anything the business has ever seen,” said Dave Hollis, Disney’s distribution chief.

The tentpole cost close to $300 million to produce and the money has already been well worth it. Infinity War’s box-office box office win was helped by the biggest Saturday of all time in North America ($83m), as well as the biggest Sunday ($69m).

In 2009, Walt Disney Co. chief Bob Iger paid $4 billion to acquire Marvel Entertainment, even though many of the superhero characters in Marvel’s stable were unproven. Debuting with $207.4 million in 2012, the original “Avengers”, had the highest opening to date for a Marvel film.

“Avengers: Infinity War” will next set its sights on records like the fastest film to reach $1 billion and the highest gross ever. With opening box office numbers like this, it’s not hard to imagine this film sitting at number one as the highest grossing of all time, taking yet another record from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Powers Passed $240 Million At Box Office In Opening Weekend

Avengers: Infinity War,” had an amazing opening weekend at the box office! The latest instalment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expected to finish the weekend with at least $240 million in sales from more that four thousand North American venues.

The highly anticipated film made $106 million at the domestic box office on its opening day Friday, making it the second biggest opening day in history right behind “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which came it at $119 million.

If the box office sales for the film finish where they are predicted to, then the film will become the second-highest domestic opening weekend of all time. That would land it once again right behind 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $248 million. The film will most definitely pass “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and passing “The Force Awakens” to take the number one spot is still a real possibility.

This will make “Avengers: Infinity War” the sixth film in history to top the $200 million during its opening weekend. The film will join a top six that also includes, “The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Jurassic World,” “The Avengers” and “Black Panther.”

Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Boseman, Zoe Saldana and many more, reunite two years after the events of “Captain America: Civil War” for “Infinity War,” which also stars Josh Brolin as Thanos, the intergalactic force bent on destruction. Joe and Anthony Russo directed the film which was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

  • Disney Reveals A First Look at Tim Burton’s Live-Action ‘Dumbo’

Disney Reveals A First Look at Tim Burton’s Live-Action ‘Dumbo’

At Tuesday’s live presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, NV there was no ignoring the elephant in the room as Disney revealed the footage from their upcoming live-action Dumbo movie.

Mixed in with footage that was mostly actors from the film talking about the making of the movie and behind the scenes footage was a first glimpse of a young Dumbo in all his CGI glory.

Disney hasn’t officially released any of the footage, but multiple attendees at the event were able to snap some pictures of everyone’s favorite pachyderm. You can see the photo below along with a shot of the film’s official logo.

As the Dumbo presentation started, Disney Executive VP Cathleen Tiff introduced the clip and said, “We’ve expanded the story, taking that as a jumping off point for Dumbo’s newest story”. She explained the film will be different from the classic story we know.

Tim Burton helms the live action Dumbo which is loosely inspired by the 1941 animated film. It’s written by Ehren Kruger and has an all-star cast including Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Alan Arkin, and Danny Devito. The period movie includes DeVito as the circus ringmaster and Keaton as the owner.

Disney has continued its dominance at the box office in with a slew of live-action remakes of its animated classics, including “Alice in Wonderland,” “The Jungle Book,” and last year’s $1.25 billion worldwide grossing “Beauty and the Beast.”

Dumbo is scheduled to hit theaters on March 29, 2019.
  • Marvel’s Newest ‘Venom’ Trailer Reveals Venom And It Was Worth The Wait

Marvel’s Newest ‘Venom’ Trailer Reveals Venom And It Was Worth The Wait

The newest trailer has been released by Sony Pictures for Marvel’s upcoming superhero spinoff series Venom and this time it doesn’t disappointThe first trailer was just a tease and didn’t show the titular anti-hero, but this one shows Venom in full form.

Last weekend on Instagram Tom Hardy teased that he would bring the thunder at CinemaCom and he sure did. Hardy introduced a new trailer Venom during Sony’s presentation.

Marvel’s new superhero spinoff series stars Tom Hardy who plays a reporter named Eddie Brock as well as Venom, an “alien symbiote” stuck in a human body. Brock’s body is possessed by the symbiote which gives him Spider-Man-like powers.

The first trailer didn’t give much in the way of plot details and offered only vague hints about the anti-hero’s origin story. The newest trailer starts with Hardy’s Eddie Brock as a tough journalist dealing with Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed as he uncovers nefarious exploitation at a corporate entity — resulting in a subsequent visit at his run-down apartment from henchmen who are there to dispatch him.

Hardy then partially transforms into Venom and quickly kills his attackers. Eddie Brock then looks at his hand bewildered wondering what has happened.  At the end of the trailer we get to see Eddie Brock as he fully forms into the alien symbiote with massive powers and proclaims, “We… Are Venom.” They also released a new poster for the movie.

    Venom Movie Poster

Venom marks the very beginning of “Sony’s Marvel Universe,” and they have insisted that film will take place in the same setting as 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then again, Marvel has insisted that Venom is not a part of the MCU. Confusing, but it leaves the door open for Marvel to include Venom at some point if it suits them.

Venom is set for wide release on October 5, 2018.
