  • Is the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser as good as Disney wants you to believe?

Is the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser as good as Disney wants you to believe?

Disney’s new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is the next level of immersive storytelling. But is it a good as Disney wants you to believe? After our media preview yesterday, I would say the answer is a resounding; Yes!

First of all, this isn’t just a “Star Wars themed Hotel.” This is an extremely immersive storytelling experience that you get the pleasure of spending two nights in. Have you ever wanted to work side-by-side with Stormtroopers to thwart Resistance Rebels? Help break Chewbacca out of the Brig? Get to train with a Lightsaber? If the answer to any of those is yes, then a voyage on the Halcyon would be a dream come true.

We got the Highlight Reel for this media event, so I won’t be walking you through every part of the experience. Besides, your experience won’t be like anyone else’s. This is a real life Choose Your Own Adventure. You could take two, or even three voyages, and have a different experience each time! Take a upclose look at all the details below:

The Crown of Corellia Dining Room

Everyone’s voyage starts as you board a transport shuttle and dock with the Halcyon in space. When the doors open you’re in the ship’s opulent Atrium. Seating areas covered in dark red velvet, gleaming lights reflecting off the polished floor. This is a side of Star Wars we haven’t seen represented at Disney before. Think the posh setting of Canto Bight, or Senator Padme Amidala’s wardrobe in the prequels. No dirty, worn surfaces, or recycled junk aboard the this glamorous Starcruiser.

During a welcome ceremony you’ll be introduced to the characters who will be traveling with you, including the cruise director and the captain. The Crew stays with you for the whole voyage so you’re able to form relationships.

    Rooms

The rooms are small, with furniture made to tuck away.

And speaking of your cabin, let’s talk about sentient droids for a minute. In each room is a panel where you can interact with D3-O9, an AI driven character experience that Disney is testing. She’s been on the ship since it was built. She knows ship gossip, and she wants to talk to you. She might fill you in when things happen aboard the ship, like I don’t know, the First Order coming aboard!

    Food

Like a traditional cruise, food is included on your journey aboard the Halcyon.
Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the Crown of Corellia Dining Room. Dinners for your two nights aboard are very different. The Dining Room isn’t huge, so when you book your voyage you’ll get to pick an early or later seating.

The first dinner is very showy, with a performance by the galactic superstar, Gaya.
For the second dinner, which is a sampling of dishes from all over the galaxy, the chef comes to talk about the food.

    Merchandise

Don’t have the right clothes for an off-world trip? Looking for just the right souvenir to remember your voyage? The Chandrila Collection boutique located inside the Atrium will have just what you need. There’s something for every Star Wars fan.

Elegant yet subtle jewelry that you could wear back home on Earth. Backpacks, patchescostumes that were designed after Imagineers visited Skywalker Ranch, a Captain’s outfit for younglings, and so much more.

    How to Interact

Your “Datapad,” or Play Disney App on your cell phone, will play a big part in this immersive cruise. It’s where you’ll see your itinerary; which can change depending on what choices you’ve made on board and on Batuu. Maybe while helping the cruise director you let it slip that you’re sympathetic to the Rebel Cause. Now she’s sending you a message asking for your help retrieving some Coaxium on your shore excursion to Black Spire Outpost. Family members can also take different paths with some helping Resistance Rebels and others helping the First Order.

    Role Playing

During the media tour we got to experience a bit of the story line for the First Order and the Resistance. The path you choose while you’re aboard will effect what experiences you encounter.

We participated in some First Order sabotage in Engineering where we had to work together with other passengers.

We trained on the bridge. You get to try out all the stations including weapons, shields, and systems.

Do you have to be a massive Star Wars fan to enjoy the Galactic Starcruiser? No. As long as you enjoy good storytelling about good vs. evil, and maybe like to engage in some role playing, you’ll have an amazing experience. The Halcyon includes several new characters, so all the passengers are getting to know them. It’s pretty easy to tell who is a bad guy and who is a good guy. The story-line for this adventure is set between Episodes 8 and 9, but you don’t need to see all the movies to jump into the fun. There’s always the invitation to engage, to go deeper into the story, but never a push.

I would say guests on the Halycon will be getting an out of this world, immersive experience. I’m going to book my next voyage right now!

Disney Wish Hits the Water for the First Time

Marking a major milestone recently, The Disney Wish hit the high seas for the first time when it floated out of an enclosed building dock at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The occasion was celebrated in true Disney style with fireworks, music and even a special appearance by Captain Minnie Mouse herself! Check out the video below to see the incredible “float out” of the Disney Wish:

When the Disney Wish sets sail in summer 2022, families will discover a mesmerizing new world created especially for them: a celebration of Disney’s rich legacy of enchanting storytelling that brings to life the fantastical worlds and beloved characters at the heart of Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars adventures like never before.

Families will embark on a splashtacular adventure with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse aboard the first-ever Disney attraction at sea; revel in a royal celebration during a theatrical dining experience with “Frozen” friends; team up with the Avengers on a Marvel cinematic dining adventure; and travel to a galaxy far, far away in a first-of-its-kind Star Wars experience on board a Disney ship.

“With the Disney Wish, we’re continuing our tradition of delivering the most magical and relaxing vacations at sea, combining legendary service and entertainment with imaginative storytelling and all the care you expect from a Disney vacation,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “Our newest ship will celebrate everything that families love about sailing with us, from the incredible dining experiences and character interactions, to dazzling shows and the crew’s thoughtful attention to detail. We can’t wait to welcome our guests aboard the Disney Wish as we expand the reach of our world-class fleet.”

The Disney Wish will sail its maiden voyage — a five-night cruise to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay — on July 14, 2022, followed by an inaugural season of three- and four-night cruises to the same destinations from Port Canaveral, Florida.

  • Seven Dwarfs Being Removed from the ‘Snow White’ Remake After Criticism

Seven Dwarfs Being Removed from the ‘Snow White’ Remake After Criticism

Peter Dinklage’s recently criticized of the forthcoming “Snow White” live-action re-make, particularly due to the depiction of the titular seven dwarfs and now Disney has responded.

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”

The response came after the “Game of Thrones” actor expressed concern over the announced reimagining of the 1937 classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” the first full-length animated film from Disney, while appearing on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast.

When discussing “West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler’s casting as the titular Disney princess, Dinklage said he was “a little taken aback” at the discrepancy in the “progressive” casting of a Latina actress as Snow White while telling a “backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.”

Rounding out the forthcoming film’s cast alongside Zegler is Gal Gadot (Red Notice) as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap (The Chaperone) in an unknown leading role. Neither of the three actors have spoken out about Dinklage’s comments at this time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has planned to retool the dwarf characters since the film’s “earliest stages” and is working with “cultural consultants” to ensure an inoffensive portrayal, as the company previously did with 2019’s Aladdin and 2020’s Mulan. However, the former faced criticism for darkening white extras with brown makeup during filming and its stereotypical portrayal of the Middle Eastern community. Similarly, the live-action remake of Mulan proved quite controversial amongst many Chinese critics for the film’s production team’s lack of diversity, inaccurate depictions of Chinese culture, and historical errors.

  • ‘Santa Clause’ Series Starring Tim Allen Coming to Disney Plus

‘Santa Clause’ Series Starring Tim Allen Coming to Disney Plus

Disney has announced Tim Allen will return for a new Disney Plus series based on The Santa Clause movies.

The new series will revisit Scott on his 65th birthday, when he realizes he can’t be Santa forever. He wants to spend more time with his family, especially his two kids raised in the North Pole, so he sets off to find a suitable Santa replacement.

The first “Santa Clause” movie came out in 1994, and followed divorced dad Scott, who accidentally became Santa after the original gift-giver fell off his roof. After he puts on Santa’s red coat, he learns that there is a built-in contractual clause for the occupational risk of falling off roofs.

This will now be the fourth time Allen has taken up the role of Calvin/Santa. He first starred in the film “The Santa Clause” in 1994, which was followed by two sequels in 2002 and 2006.

Jack Burditt, who created the Allen-led comedy series “Last Man Standing,” will serve as executive producer and showrunner on “The Santa Clause” series. Allen will executive produce in addition to starring. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina will also executive produce. The Disney Branded Television series will be produced by 20th Television. Production on the series will begin in March.
