  • BREAKING: New Annual Pass Sales Paused at Disney World

BREAKING: New Annual Pass Sales Paused at Disney World

Disney World has paused sales on most of it’s new annual passes according to the company’s website.

Sales of its three most expensive annual passes — Disney Pirate Pass, Disney Sorcerer Pass and Disney Incredi-Pass — “are currently paused,” the website says. Only the Disney Pixie Dust Pass, designed for Florida residents and valid only on weekdays, remains available for new sales at this time.

The three paused passes are still listed on the site but with notations that read “currently unavailable.”

A Walt Disney World spokesperson said the change was made while the company monitors attendance at the theme parks. The change occurs as Thanksgiving week begins, the December holidays approach and travel restrictions into the United States have been eased.

Current annual passholders will still be able to renew their passes as they expire, the spokesperson said.

The pause is expected to be lifted sometime in 2022, the spokesperson said.

  • Disney Cruise to require children 5 and up to have COVID-19 vaccination

Disney Cruise to require children 5 and up to have COVID-19 vaccination

Beginning Jan. 13, children ages five and up will be required to be vaccinated before sailing on Disney Cruise Line.

The mandate is an expansion of one that already exists for the cruise line, where it requires all vaccine-eligible guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Those who are not eligible because of age will need to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken between three days and 24 hours of their sail date.

Children who are between the ages five and 11 may complete testing instead of being vaccinated before sailings that depart on Jan 13.

Guests four and under must complete testing. Rapid antigen tests will not be accepted.

“As we set sail again, the health and safety of our Guests, Cast Members and Crew Members is a top priority. Our focus remains on operating our ships in a responsible way that continues to create magic for all on board,” Disney says on their cruise line website.

  • Disneyland Closing Mickey Mouse’s Toontown In March For Makeover

Disneyland Closing Mickey Mouse’s Toontown In March For Makeover

Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland will close next year to begin work on redesigning the theme park experience, Disney announced Monday.

This news was shared today at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo by Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Josh D’Amaro.

Building on the legacy of Mickey’s Toontown, Imagineers are working to create some all-new experiences so families and young children can have more opportunities to play together inside Disneyland park. The beloved Mickey’s Toontown will transform into a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations. Focusing on today’s families with young children, Mickey’s Toontown will feature new play experiences, as well as open, grassy play spaces for everyone to unplug. The land will have landscaping for both spontaneous family play and parental relaxation.

“We are so excited to leverage Disney’s powerful brand, develop new stories and share even more magical experiences with our guests,” said D’Amaro. “The newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will be a welcoming place where families and younger guests can connect and play together in fun new ways.”

Even with a greener and more spacious Mickey’s Toontown, the land will offer more play activities and attractions than ever before. From active play to tactile play, new experiences will let children play, slide, spin, splash, touch and listen!

One of the new areas coming to Mickey’s Toontown will be CenTOONial Park, the first space guests will see when they enter. This natural space will be anchored by two interactive play experiences.

At the center of CenTOONial Park will be a fountain, designed for play, which will also become a center icon for Mickey’s Toontown. As its base, water tables will invite guests to play with the water and have a sensory experience. At night, the fountain will be brought to life in a unique spectacle.

A nearby dreaming tree will be inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown. Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and undulating topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream.

In addition to reopening in 2023 with the new, family-friendly and adventurous Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Mickey’s Toontown will still be home to many beloved characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and more!

Mickey’s Toontown will close in March of 2022 to begin creating these all-new experiences.

  • Homer and Goofy Grab a Beer in New Disney+ Special

Homer and Goofy Grab a Beer in New Disney+ Special

The Simpsons celebrated Disney+ Day on Friday, November 12 with an all-new special, The Simpsons in Plusaversary where Disney characters visit Moe’s Tavern and Homer even gets a chance to have a beer with Goofy.

When Disney tapped “The Simpsons” to produce an animated short for Disney Plus, executive producer Al Jean said the idea was born to cram as many of the company’s franchise characters as possible into Moe’s Tavern.

That’s the basis of “The Simpsons in Plusaversary,” which premiered Friday on Disney Plus. In the new short, a Disney Plus Day party takes place for some of the company’s iconic Disney, Marvel and Star Wars characters at Moe’s, where Wreck-It Ralph and Maui from “Moana” are the bouncers and Maleficent is checking the entry list.

But first, Homer has trouble entering Moe’s, since he’s not on the list — which includes Jeff Goldblum, Dopey, Ant-Man, Darth Sidious, Pinocchio, Aaron Burr Jabba the Hutt, Loki, Thanos, Lightning McQueen and more. “You don’t seem to be one of us,” notes Maleficent, looking at a page on her tablet that includes Pixar, ABC, FX, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Hulu, National Geographic and ESPN.

It’s a subtle jab at the fact that “The Simpsons” doesn’t have its own brand tile on Disney Plus, similar to what Marvel, Star Wars and Nat Geo have.

“We’ve had such tile envy at ‘The Simpsons’ that yes, at the beginning you see this guest list and the basis is they had tiles and we don’t, so please, at long last after two years, give us our tile!” Jean said. “When you look at what’s trending on Disney Plus, we’re usually number one!”

Homer manages to become Goofy’s plus one, and inside the bar, the two start pounding pints of Duff beer. “One of our writers, Loni Sosthand, had the suggestion to have Homer befriending Goofy,” Jean said. “I think it worked really well. So we look forward to more Homer and Goofy shorts. We wanted it to be edgy and wanted to poke fun at a holiday that I certainly celebrate, Disney Plus Day.”

There were only a few stipulations in depicting the Disney characters in the short. For starters, Mickey Mouse was off limits.

“My view is Mickey actually doesn’t exist,” Jean quipped. “So we have Bart playing Mickey and telling everybody to get back to work.”

But beyond that, according to Jean, “they said, which I completely agree with, they didn’t want anyone who is a role model for young kids like Belle to be drinking.”

In the case of Goofy, the character has been portrayed as an adult male with a kid in the past, which made it OK for him to enjoy those Duffs with Homer.

Among the show’s regular voice actors, Dan Castellaneta voiced Donald Duck, Hank Azaria was Goofy and Tress MacNeille was Maleficent. And when it came time for Bart to impersonate Mickey Mouse, “Nancy [Cartwright] does a great Mickey laugh,” Jean said. “I thought they all nailed it.”

Director David Silverman oversaw scenes such as Sebastian the Crab drinking at Moe’s with a long straw. “We tried to put little Easter eggs like that throughout,” Jean said.

“We had the dwarves, who are very rare,” he added. “Marvel and Star Wars have always been great, one of my other favorite jokes in the short is BB8, who’s now Maggie’s best friend from the first short. Maggie and BB8 are pals, like they would be if they really worked with the same company. We were talking about doing a short with all the silent characters, Maggie, BB8, Dopey.”

“The Simpsons in Plusaversary” is the third in a series of Disney Plus shorts from “The Simpsons” following “Maggie Simpson in ‘The Force Awakens from Its Nap’” and “The Good, The Bart, and The Loki.” Separately, in October, “The Simpsons” produced a 10-minute short for Paris-based fashion house Balenciaga.

“To count those three shorts and Balenciaga, which was like a 10-minute episode, we’ve done more material this year than any year since ‘The Simpsons Movie,’” Jean noted. “So it’s a real renaissance for us.”

Next up, Jean teased that “The Simpsons” is working on a Spanish language-only short that won’t be for Disney Plus — but he won’t say much more beyond that: “The characters that appears with the Simpsons is Spanish language and all the dialogue is in Spanish. And all the signs are in Spanish, but I yeah, I can’t say too much.”

As for Disney Plus in 2022, “We’re pitching more out. I’m not saying we’re doing them but ‘She- Hulk’ is going to be big and then ‘Obi Wan.’ We’re too late to do ‘Boba Fett,’ which I think would have been cool. But I love doing them so you know we want to do more.”

  • Cirque du Soleil and Disney Reveal Previously Unannounced Acts for Upcoming New Show

Cirque du Soleil and Disney Reveal Previously Unannounced Acts for Upcoming New Show

When the first-of-its-kind creative collaboration between iconic memory-makers Cirque du Soleil and Disney premieres on Nov. 18, Drawn to Life will feature 10 distinct acrobatic performances.

After previously unveiling a few of the acts that would be featured in this love letter to the art of Disney Animation, today Cirque du Soleil and Disney revealed two more of the amazing acrobatic performances set to amaze audiences upon the show’s debut: “Garden of Lines” unicycle and “The Old Mill” double wheel acts.

Drawn to Life, written and directed by Michel Laprise with Fabrice Becker as Director of Creation, is a live acrobatic journey telling the story of Julie, a determined girl who discovers an unexpected gift left by her Disney Animator father: an unfinished animation. As she dives into the inner world of animation guided by a surprising pencil, Julie embarks on an inspiring quest filled with her childhood Disney memories. Developed in partnership with Michael Jung, Executive Theatrical Development, Walt Disney Imagineering along with Walt Disney Animation Studios, the story is driven by 10 unique acrobatic acts alongside animation from beloved Disney films. In addition, the show features all-new animation created by Disney artists led by Animation Director Eric Goldberg, best known for characters such as the Genie in the Disney Animation classic “Aladdin.”

    • In the “Garden of Lines” unicycle act, Julie is swept into a wonderland of familiar shadows, shapes and outlines in an homage to cherished tales that inspire an animator. Julie’s whimsical mood fixates on a mischievous marionette from a time-honored Italian fairytale. Five playful unicyclists representing the Blue Fairy of the classic Disney Animation film “Pinocchio” appear to effortlessly float across the stage, performing synchronized stunts and individual tricks with pinpoint precision.
    • “The Old Mill” double wheel act is inspired by Walt Disney’s groundbreaking 1937 animated short of the same name, which is seen in projections throughout. In a display of tenacity, perseverance and rise-and-fall motion, owls dreamed up by Julie’s imagination weather a storm using teamwork and courage to carry them through the powerful wind and rain that threaten their windmill home. The windmill of the film is represented in a spectacular, churning, fast-moving double wheel structure. Gravity-defying acrobats are in constant motion with the turning wheels—at times airborne—with astonishing balance and agility.

Drawn to Life is the 50th production created by Cirque du Soleil and its premiere coincides with the Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary celebration. With an international cast of 62 artists, Drawn to Life will perform Tuesday through Saturday at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.

In advance of the show’s premiere, Cirque du Soleil and Disney fans can now visit the Cirque du Soleil Store at Disney Springs West Side for merchandise.

  • BREAKING: Shanghai Disneyland Temporarily Closed due to COVID-19 Investigation

BREAKING: Shanghai Disneyland Temporarily Closed due to COVID-19 Investigation

Shanghai Disney Resort is under temporary lockdown on Sunday evening as the resort was cooperating with pandemic investigation in another province.

“We have temporarily suspended entry into Shanghai Disneyland and Disneytown, and some attractions inside the park will also temporarily stop operating. Outdoor entertainment will continue as scheduled,” the resort said in a statement on Sunday.

The Shanghai government issued an emergency notice on Sunday night, saying all those who had been to the park on October 30-31 must report to their communities and workplaces, and should immediately conduct nucleic acid tests at the nearest medical facilities.

They should stay at home for at least the first two days, and conduct nucleic acid tests on the first, second, seventh and fourteenth day, according to the notice.

Guests who are inside the park on Sunday night have to undergo nucleic acid testing at the exit when leaving the resort.

They will also be required to undergo another nucleic acid test after 24 hours.

If both tests are confirmed to be negative, then guests will be asked to follow a 12-day self-health monitoring, the resort said.

Shanghai’s Metro operator also suspended operation at its Disney Resort station on Line 11 by 8:15pm. People are not allowed to enter or exit the station and passengers on the train can not get off. The terminal of the Metro Line 11 will be changed to Kangxin Highway station.

  • Pixar releases first trailer for Toy Story Spinoff ‘Lightyear’

Pixar releases first trailer for Toy Story Spinoff ‘Lightyear’

Pixar has released the first trailer for Lightyear, the Toy Story spinoff that focuses on the in-universe astronaut that inspired the character of Buzz Lightyear.

The movie, which is set to release summer 2022, follows the journey of Buzz Lightyear (this time voiced by Chris Evans) as he progresses from a test pilot to a full-blown Space Ranger in Star Command.

In the trailer, we see the real Lightyear suit up for what will surely be a dangerous and daring space mission. He boards a space shuttle, with a ground control crew anxiously watching, as it blasts off into the unknown cosmos. To the tune of David Bowie’s “Starman,” Lightyear explores alien planets, learns about space travel from an instructional robot and, finally, gazes up on his iconic green-and-white space suit in the final moments of the trailer. Take a look at the trailer below:

Annie Award-winning director and veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane steps into the director’s chair for “Lightyear.” The filmmaker was a co-director on “Finding Dory” but is now making his solo Pixar directorial debut with the “Toy Story” prequel. Galyn Susman (the “Toy Story That Time Forgot” short) is producing.
