  • Virtual Queue System Returns to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for Disney World Reopening

Virtual Queue System Returns to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for Disney World Reopening

Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopens on July 15 and in order to help maintain appropriate physical distancing, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will once again be using the virtual queue system.

If you’ve joined the Resistance before, you will want to note a few changes to the process beginning July 15. Most importantly – as availability allows – guests will have an opportunity at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. to request to join the virtual queue. This means there is no need to arrive early to the park to check the virtual queue.

Whether it’s your first trip to Batuu or you have joined the fight against the First Order before, there are a few important details to know before you arrive:

    • First, make sure you have the My Disney Experience app. Once you enter the park, log in to your account at one of the distribution times (10 a.m., 1 p.m. or 4 p.m.).
    • Once you have logged in, select “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue” on the home screen. You will be able to view the current status and next steps for joining the virtual queue.
    • The app will indicate when there is no availability for a specific distribution time. Some guests may join backup groups.
    • As long as your My Disney Experience account is linked to park tickets for you and the others in your group, you can enroll everyone in the virtual queue at the same time. In order to give as many guests as possible the opportunity to join the Resistance, each guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day.
    • Make sure push notifications are turned on for My Disney Experience so you will be alerted if your group is called to return. You’ll have up to an hour from the time of the alert to go to the entrance of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
    • Please note that joining the virtual queue does not guarantee the ability to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

  • Disney World Resumes Theme Park Ticket Sales and Disney Resort Hotel Bookings

Disney World Resumes Theme Park Ticket Sales and Disney Resort Hotel Bookings

Beginning today, Disney World has resumed ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel bookings for 2020.

Guests are now able to purchase new tickets and plan future visits throughout this year with the Disney Park Pass system, which they are using to help manage attendance during this reopening period.

Disney World had temporarily paused 2020 ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel bookings so they could focus on helping existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders plan their visits with the new Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system.

Disney’s Florida theme parks have been closed since March 15 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom open for business July 11; Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopen July 15.

For those looking to make their plans right away, please note that tickets and Disney Resort hotel bookings may be released at different times throughout the day tomorrow. In addition, we will use virtual waiting rooms as needed to manage the high volume of guests looking to plan their visits.

All guests with valid admission are required to make a reservation in advance for each park entry, so be sure to check the park reservation availability calendar before purchasing any new tickets and then go directly to DisneyWorld.com/DisneyParkPass after your purchase to make your park reservations. Reservations are limited and subject to availability. Please note that, during this phased reopening, some tickets, ticket options and Disney Resort hotels are unavailable, but there are still a variety of options to choose from.

Though the experience may be different than the last time you visited, there is so much to look forward to, with many favorite attractions and dozens of entertainment offerings, including special new character cavalcades and the Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

  • Jude Law in Talks to Play Captain Hook in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’

Jude Law in Talks to Play Captain Hook in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’

Jude Law is in talks to play Captain Hook in Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 1953 animated classic “Peter Pan.”

David Lowery is directing the pic from a screenplay he wrote with Toby Halbrooks, based on the J.M. Barrie novel. The film, which stars Ever Anderson as Wendy and Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, was among the shoots Disney paused on March 13 amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Disney’s 14th animated feature film and was an adaptation of J. M. Barrie’s story about a boy who never grew up. The three children of the Darling family receive a visit from Peter Pan, who takes them to Never Land, where an ongoing war between Peter’s gang of rag-tag runaways and the evil Pirate Captain Hook is taking place.

Disney has been on a roll of live-action adaptations of its classics. The studio’s already released new, blockbuster versions of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Dumbo, in addition to releasing a hyperrealistic CGI version of The Lion King—which, like Beauty and Aladdin, grossed over $1 billion at the box office. The studio was set to release Mulan next, but the coronavirus has put those plans on hold, pushing Disney to delay the release from March to July, then to August 21.

  • Colin Kaepernick Signs Production Deal with Disney

Colin Kaepernick Signs Production Deal with Disney

Colin Kaepernick has signed a first-look deal with Disney, which will include a docuseries focusing on his journey from playing for the 49ers to becoming an activist.

The deal between Kaepernick’s production arm, Ra Vision Media, and The Walt Disney Co. was announced Monday. The partnership will focus on telling scripted and unscripted stories that explore race, social injustice and the quest for equity. It also will provide a platform to showcase the work of directors and producers of color.

“I am excited to announce this historic partnership with Disney across all of its platforms to elevate Black and Brown directors, creators, storytellers, and producers, and to inspire the youth with compelling and authentic perspectives,” Kaepernick said in a statement. “I look forward to sharing the docuseries on my life story, in addition to many other culturally impactful projects we are developing.”

Despite being exiled from the NFL since the 2016 season when he took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality, Kaepernick still wants to play.

A person close to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback told The Associated Press that Kaepernick is in excellent shape and ready to play but hasn’t received any calls.

Following the nationwide protests in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell apologized to players for not listening to them earlier, encouraged them to protest peacefully and denounced racism.

Kaepernick, who became the face of a Nike campaign in 2018, will work closely with The Undefeated, which is expanding its portfolio across Disney, to develop stories from the perspective of communities of color.

His deal with The Walt Disney Co. will extend across all Disney platforms, including Walt Disney Television, ESPN, Hulu, Pixar and The Undefeated.

“During this unprecedented time, The Walt Disney Co. remains committed to creating diverse and inclusive content that resonates and matters,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s executive chairman. “Colin’s experience gives him a unique perspective on the intersection of sports, culture and race, which will undoubtedly create compelling stories that will educate, enlighten and entertain, and we look forward to working with him on this important collaboration.”

The docuseries chronicling Kaepernick’s journey and his last five years is the first project in development.

“Developing exceptional storytelling told through a wide array of voices is at the core of who we are at ESPN,” ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro said. “Colin has had a singular path as both an athlete and an activist, and, as the nation continues to confront racism and social injustice, it feels particularly relevant to hear Colin’s voice on his evolution and motivations.”
