  • Baby Zebra Born at Walt Disney World Resort

Baby Zebra Born at Walt Disney World Resort

The folks over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are seeing stripes today!  The park has just announced the birth of a Hartmann’s zebra foal.

On Jan. 21, the yet-to-be-named Hartmann’s zebra foal was born to mom Prima under the care of the West Savanna team. This moment marks a milestone for the park as it is the first time this vulnerable zebra species has been born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Weighing in at about 65 pounds, the foal was standing and walking within 30 minutes of birth.

This little one is doing well and bonding backstage with his mom. Much of the time, he is nursing, napping and starting to play and explore his mom’s hay. When he’s ready, he will be introduced in stages to the other zebras and then join the herd as they go out onto the savanna.

These zebra births mark another success for Disney’s animal care experts and the Species Survival Plan, a program through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that helps ensure a diverse, healthy population of threatened and endangered species.

  • Disney’s Live-Action Pinocchio Remake Confirms Robert Zemeckis to Direct and Co-Write

Disney’s Live-Action Pinocchio Remake Confirms Robert Zemeckis to Direct and Co-Write

Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has been tapped to direct and co-write Disney’s live-action remake of its animated classic Pinocchio.

Tom Hanks was reportedly in talks to play Pinocchio’s “father” Geppetto in 2018; it’s unclear if he is still attached to the film.

The original film centered around Geppetto who catches sight of a wishing star and wishes for Pinocchio to become a real boy. Once Geppetto fell asleep, his home is visited by the Blue Fairy, who brings Pinocchio to life. With his faithful friend Jiminy Cricket by his side, Pinocchio embarks on fantastic adventures that test his bravery, loyalty and honesty until he triumphs in his quest for his heart’s desire: to become a real boy.

The original 1940 animated movie won two Oscars for best original score and the classic Disney tune, “When You Wish Upon a Star”. The movie based on the Carlo Collodi story follows the young puppet boy Pinocchio who yearns to be a real boy after being created by Geppetto.

Production could possibly start by the end of the year. While no release date has been set for Pinocchio, Disney has several dates reserved for untitled live-action features as can see below:

    March 12, 2021; July 30, 2021; Oct. 8, 2021; Nov. 19, 2021; March 25, 2022; May 27,2022; July 8, 2022; Aug. 12, 2022; Nov. 4, 2022; March 10, 2023; May 26, 2023; July 14, 2023; Aug. 11, 2023; Oct. 6, 2023;  and Dec. 15, 2023. Their next live-action reboot of a classic animated title is Mulan on March 27.

  • ‘Bambi’ Live-Action Remake is in the Works

‘Bambi’ Live-Action Remake is in the Works

Disney is remaking another classic into a live-action adventure and this time it’s Bambi that will be joining the herd.

The film will employ the same photo-realistic CGI used on Disney’s remakes of “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King” to tell the story of the titular fawn who befriends a rabbit and skunk before coping with the death of his mother at the hands of a hunter.

The original movie, released in 1942, told the story of a young fawn named Bambi as he learns his place in the forest. With his two best friends, a rabbit named Thumper and a skunk named Flower, Bambi comes of age as he faces the joys and heartache — cue the loss of a parent — of growing up.

Screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”) and Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) will write the screenplay, with Chris and Paul Weitz’s Depth of Field producing.

Disney Shuts Down Shanghai Park as Deadly Coronavirus Spreads

The Walt Disney Co. is preparing to close its Shanghai Disney Resort in response to the growing fears over the outbreak of coronavirus currently spreading though China.

In response to the virus, officials at Shanghai Disneyland said that the giant theme park would close until further notice “in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests.” The move comes during one of the park’s busiest weeks of the year.

    Read Disney’s full statement below:

In response to the prevention and control of the disease outbreak and in order to ensure the health and safety of our guests and Cast, Shanghai Disney Resort is temporarily closing Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown including Walt Disney Grand Theatre and Wishing Star Park, starting January 25, 2020. We will continue to carefully monitor the situation and be in close contact with the local government, and we will announce the reopening date upon confirmation.

Shanghai Disney Resort will assist in the refund for guests who have purchased tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland, have booked a resort hotel, or have booked tickets for Beauty and the Beast Mandarin Production through the original ticket purchase channel, and we will introduce the detailed procedure and guidelines via the resort’s official platforms as soon as possible.

We wish our guests a healthy and happy Spring Festival!

This announcement comes as the U.S. State Department is warning Americans not to enter China’s Hubei province due to the coronavirus, as Chinese authorities announced Thursday that the death toll from the virus has increased to 25.

The U.S. is also pulling out most of its diplomats and their families from the consulate general in Wuhan, the Hubei city of 11 million where cases of the new virus were first discovered.

The State Department issued a new travel advisory late Thursday, declaring the Hubei region Level 4, Do Not Travel, the strongest of the four travel warning levels issued by the U.S. government.

  • Strawberry Hibiscus Mimosa is All the Buzz at Disney World

Strawberry Hibiscus Mimosa is All the Buzz at Disney World

If you like a good mimosa with breakfast then you’ll love the Strawberry Hibiscus Mimosa available at Ale & Compass Restaurant located in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort at Disney World.

On the menu its known as Agua Fresca Libation and it’s made with Paul Cheneau Cava with Agua Fresca Strawberry and Hibiscus and costs $12.

This hidden gem has been on the menu since Ale & Compass Restaurant opened in 2017 and it goes great with the amazing breakfast buffet offered at the restaurant. Take a look below for a break down of the ingredients and a close look at the buffet:

Agua Fresca: A sweet and refreshing fruit drink made with only 4 ingredients. A refreshing blend of strawberries, water, sugar, and lime juice is a great light alternative to the traditional orange juice made mimosa.

Paul Cheneau Cava: The sparkling Cava actually comes from Spain, however, the name fits, as it is surprisingly champagne-like. A fine pale yellow in color, with golden highlights, it offers complex yellow and spice fruit, along with pinpoint bubbles and subtle biscuity notes. For the money, Paul Cheneau can’t be beat.

The New England-inspired eatery boasts a seafood-focused menu however, guests can find a number of additional non-seafood options as you can see below:

At Ale & Compass Restaurant you can drop anchor for Eastern Seaboard eats that the whole crew will love and start the day with hearty breakfast dishes—including omelets, dark chocolate waffle, salted caramel-apple French toast or a protein bowl. Or, enjoy lighter fare, like fruit smoothies.
