Disney Drops Trailer for ‘The Force Awakens’ Prequel Series ‘Star Wars Resistance’

Friday, we got our first look at Star Wars Resistance, the new anime-inspired animated series, and a promise of more to come when the series debuts on Sunday, October 7th at 10 p.m. EST on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD, with subsequent airings on Disney XD.

The trailer comes complete with familiar faces like Poe Dameron and everyone’s happily-beeping buddy, BB-8; a glimpse at the new cast of characters including Kazuda Xiono, the young pilot recruited by the Resistance; and an introduction to the Colossus, a massive refueling platform on an outer rim ocean planet. The series, set prior to the events in The Force Awakens, also welcomes Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie to the voice cast, reprising their roles as Poe and Captain Phasma, respectively.

See the trailer for yourself below:

We’re also thrilled to bring you intel on the first episode! In the one-hour premiere “The Recruit,” Poe and BB-8 assign Kaz to the Colossus, where he meets a cast of colorful new aliens, droids and creatures. While undercover to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, Kaz works as a mechanic and lives with Poe’s old friend Yeager — a veteran pilot who operates a starship repair shop run by his crew: Tam, Neeku and a battered old astromech called Bucket.

“Can you imagine what it’s like to be an ace pilot?” Kaz asks.

This fall, imagine no more. Welcome to the Resistance!

  • Disney Movie Release Schedule Shake Up: Mary Poppins Returns, Maleficent 2 and More

Disney Movie Release Schedule Shake Up: Mary Poppins Returns, Maleficent 2 and More

Disney announced on Tuesday some major changes to its upcoming schedule of films. The changes include a release date for “Maleficent 2,” “as wall as new release dates for “Mary Poppins Returns,” the next “Indiana Jones” movie, a yet-to-be-announced Marvel movie and more.

First, if you’re a Mary Poppins fan, then Christmas is coming early for you. Disney is moving up its anticipated musical “Mary Poppins Returns” by one week from Christmas Day to December 19.

Maleficent 2” finally has a released date and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 9, 2020. The long-awaited sequel for Angelina Jolie’s live-action “Maleficent” now takes the slot of a previously unspecified live-action title. That’s nearly six years after the $742 million domestic debut of “Maleficent.”

“Indiana Jones 5” has been moved from July 10, 2020 to July 9, 2021. That means the fifth Harrison Ford adventure will open 13 years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and 19 years after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ford will be just shy of 79-years old when the film opens in theaters.

A previously “untitled Disney movie” with a release date of October 4, 2019 has been revealed to be the “Jungle Cruise” movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, which is based on the Disney theme park ride. That film is now setting sail one week later on October 11, 2019.

Disney has multiple untitled slots on the schedule and a few of them have been changed too. An untitled Marvel movie has been moved up a bit from July 30, 2021 to February 12, 2021, while an untitled live-action movie originally set for July 9, 2021 will take that July 30 slot. Also, two untitled live-action movies slated for November 8, 2019 and February 21, 2021 have been removed from Disney’s schedule entirely.

A finally, a long over due title change for Wreck-It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet. Now the film is simply known as Ralph Breaks the Internet and is still dated for the Thanksgiving stretch on November 21.

Disney’s movie release schedule is always dynamic and more changes could come at anytime. Stay tuned as we bring you all the latest updates.

  • Felicity Star Keri Russell In Talks To Join Cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Felicity Star Keri Russell In Talks To Join Cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Actress Keri Russell may be headed to a galaxy far far away as she is reportedly in talks to join Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Episode IX.

The actress, who is well-known for playing the title role in Felicity, just wrapped the six seasons of The Americans and has reportedly been cast for an action-oriented role in J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars Episode IX, according to Variety.

Abrams and Lucasfilm execs met with several actresses for the role in the past two months and settled on Russell right before the Fourth of July holiday. Abrams will likely cast two more actors by the time the film begins production at the end of the month.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to start production this summer ahead of its December 2019 release. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is returning to the director’s chair and is already turning to familiar faces to fill new roles in the film.

Abrams and Russell have a long history of working together. They first teamed on The WB drama series Felicity way back in 1998, and then reunited for Mission: Impossible III, which served as Abrams’ feature directorial debut. When Abrams was prepping what would become Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Russell made it clear that she’d do anything to be a part of his take on the Star Wars universe and now it looks like she may get her chance.

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran are all expected to reprise their roles as the heroes of the Resistance, facing down the First Order now under the command of Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. But a full cast list has not yet been confirmed.

  • New Permits Reveal Star Wars Hotel Scope and Connection to Hollywood Studios

New Permits Reveal Star Wars Hotel Scope and Connection to Hollywood Studios

Disney recently filed permits with the South Florida Water Management District that reveal new details about the size and scope of the Star Wars Hotel as well as how guests will be entering Hollywood Studios directly from the resort.

Walt Disney World confirmed back in may that the hotel will be located just east of World Drive, on the south side of Hollywood Studios, but now with these construction plans we get real sense of exactly how the hotel will fit in to the surrounding area.

    Star Wars Resort Permits

Disney has said that hotel will be “seamlessly connected” to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. According to the recently filed permits, guests staying at Walt Disney World’s Star Wars hotel will drive from Hollywood Studios’ parking lot over a drainage canal to get to the main hotel entrance.

    Star Wars Resort Permits

Guests staying at the resort will use a special pathway to enter the theme park that will take them between the two attractions in the new land.

This first-of-its-kind resort will combine luxury with complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story. Guests’ journey through space will start when everyone departs together for a multiday Stars Wars adventure by boarding a starship alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during a voyage through the galaxy.

“It’s unlike anything that exists today.” Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek said. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

Disney has not released details on the new resort will open, but we do know the Star Wars-themed land at Hollywood Studios will open in late fall 2019.

  • Obi-Wan Star Wars Spin Off Has a Synopsis and Set To Begin Production

Obi-Wan Star Wars Spin Off Has a Synopsis and Set To Begin Production

It’s been five years since Lucasfilm officially announced that “new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways.” Now with the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” only a week away, it seems like a great time for some production news about the next movie in the ‘Star Wars Story’ franchise to make its way to the internet.

Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger positively announced that a third standalone Star Wars film would roll out in 2020. In a newly released production bulletin making its rounds on the internet, Disney’s next spin-off series appears to be called “Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story,” with a working title of “Joshua Tree.”

The Obi-Wan Movie will not be an origin story though.  The synopsis reads as follows: “Obi-Wan is on Tatooine being an elusive hermit and stuff, but secretly watches over an infant Luke Skywalker, whom he delivered to his uncle, Owen. Tensions between the local farmers and a tribe of Sand People — headed by a ruthless war chief — eventually brings Obi outta hiding … and into Jedi kickass mode. Scene.” according to the bulletin.

Stephen Daldry is listed as the director which confirms his involvement which has been rumored from the beginning. Production is set to begin next spring and the movie is shooting in London’s Pinewood Studios, recently used for ‘The Last Jedi.’
