Stunning Flyover Video of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction Site

If you have been wondering about the progress of construction over at Galaxy’s Edge, Disney has just released some absolutely stunning flyover video of the area and you can see, up close and personal, exactly what there up to behind those construction walls.

While the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands won’t debut to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort guests until 2019 this new video shows just how much progress they have made and how huge the scope of the project really is.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests will be transported to the planet of Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge that was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes. Here, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two attractions that take detail and immersion to the next level: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customized secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

As you can see in this video, which Bob Iger shared this morning during the 2018 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is shaping up to be one of the most detailed and immersive lands ever created in Disney Parks history. Take a look at the video above for construction flyover footage that shows the expansive scale of this thrilling addition.

Take a look back below at some of the other constructions updates we have made along the way.  Like the video, the progress they have made is truly stunning.

  • Mark Hamill Finally Gets A Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Mark Hamill Finally Gets A Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Mark Hamill is finally getting a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and he didn’t have to do any jedi mind tricks to get it. At least not that we know of. This star of course doesn’t come from a galaxy far far away, but from right here in our own galaxy. In an event, the recognition is long overdue for the franchises most recognizable faces.

The iconic actor who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga — and whose incredible body of work spans movies, TV, theatre, video games, and voice-over — will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it was announced this week. The star will be dedicated on March 8 at 11:30 a.m. PT. in the category of Motion Pictures, in a special ceremony at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the El Capitan Theatre. Joining master of ceremonies and president & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leron Gubler to unveil the star will be two of Hamill’s friends from his time in a galaxy far, far away: Harrison Ford and George Lucas.

“Star Wars fans will be over the moon that hearing their idol Mark Hamill is going to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We are proud to add this extraordinary actor on our historic Walk of Fame.” Fans can watch the event on www.walkoffame.com.

Born in Oakland, California, Hamill was discovered in a workshop musical comedy called Anthems in E-Flat Calliope the summer before becoming a theatre arts major at Los Angeles City College. For six years, he made guest appearances on multiple TV series and television movies, including a stint on General Hospital and a starring role on The Texas Wheelers.

Next came his big screen debut: 1977’s Star Wars, and the role of Luke Skywalker, which made him a legend. Hamill reprised the part in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), and again in the highly-anticipated sequels The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017), for which he garnered great critical praise. In a lengthy discussion on his birthday last year, StarWars.com spoke with Hamill about his Star Wars journey, from acting with longtime hero Alec Guinness to what being part of Star Wars means to him today.

In addition to the Star Wars saga, Hamill’s many film credits include Corvette Summer, Samuel Fuller’s The Big Red One, Slipstream, Walking Across Egypt, Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Sushi Girl, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and last year’s Brigsby Bear. Hamill also directed and starred in the cult mockumentary Comic Book: The Movie.

A gifted voice actor, Hamill has performed across mediums. For a generation of Batman fans, he is the Joker thanks to his turn in the revolutionary Batman: The Animated Series. He reprised the role for the Arkham Asylum video game series (for which he won a BAFTA Award), the 2016 animated film, Batman: The Killing Joke, and the new series Justice League Action — in which he also, in a bit of comically meta storytelling, played the Joker, the Trickster, and himself in the same scene.

Recently, Hamill also returned as the Trickster on CW’s live-action The Flash, a role he first played in the original CBS series. On Broadway, Hamill’s credits include The Elephant Man, Amadeus, Michael Stewart’s Harrigan n’ Hart, The Nerd, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, and the Roundabout Theatre production of Room Service.

Hamill will receive his star as Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives on Digital on March 13 and Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and On-Demand on March 27.

Every piece put into place is an important one, but seeing what is clearly a piece of the inside of the hull of the Millennium Falcon is really exciting.

Thats right…  For those who haven’t heard yet, one of the land’s two signature attractions will put you in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests visit Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order.

  • Disney Streaming Service Will Not Include R-Rated Content

Disney Streaming Service Will Not Include R-Rated Content

Disney’s upcoming streaming service is moving full steam ahead and more details are starting to emerge about what types of content the service will offer. Last August Disney announced plans to debut its own streaming service in 2019 with content like Star Wars and Marvel movies, Disney studio and Pixar films.

The programming for the over-the-top content service will be consistent with the Disney brand and there will be no R-rated films, according to a recent report from Deadline. So Marvel’s series currently on Netflix will stay where they are for now, and any R-rated content will reportedly go to Hulu instead of the Disney streaming service.

As we previously reported, Disney-ABC TV will providing original content for the service that would include feature-length films regular series and he also touted a “High School Musical” reboot, with the original producers on board.

Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Bob Iger already confirmed a live action Star Wars Series and a TV series based on the 2001 Pixar film Monsters Inc. were in the plans for the future streaming service, at a quarterly earnings call with investors.

Disney is also reportedly prioritizing new movies, including Lady and the Tramp, The Paper Magician, Stargirl and Togo. Other projects in development are 3 Men and a Baby, Sword and the Stone, and Timmy Failure, according to the report.

Also be heading to the streaming service will be Magic Camp and Noelle, two movies currently in post-production. The shows may cost $25 million to $35 million for 10 episodes, though a more ambitious series could go up to $100 million, the report said.

There has been no mention of a price point as of yet and the Disney plans to start with a domestic service only, and then expand overseas.

Disney has revealed more details about its theme park projects around the globe and at the D23 Expo Japan on Sunday, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek, gave us some new details on the upcoming Star Wars themed resort that promises to be ‘Unlike Anything That Exists Today’.

Last summer, Disney announced plans for an immersive Star Wars-inspired resort to be built at Walt Disney World Resort. The company now says that hotel will be “seamlessly connected” to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios set to open in 2019.

  • Game of Thrones Creators Tapped To Create New Series of Star Wars Films

Game of Thrones Creators Tapped To Create New Series of Star Wars Films

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set to write and produce a new “Star Wars” series of films, Disney announced on Tuesday. The creative duo is going from Winterfell to a galaxy far, far away.

With Star Wars: Episode IX set to cap the trilogy of trilogies and Game of Thrones approaches its 2019 conclusion, the timing is right for both parties. While no one has ruled out future films continuing the main Star Wars storyline in the future, it’s clear that Disney and Lucasfilm plan on taking the franchise into a multitude of new territories.

These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

Disney acquired Lucasfilm for more than $4 billion in 2012. From that moment the studio has been exploring every avenue to expand the famous far way galaxy to get the largest return on their investment. They immediately delved into a new trilogy that brings together familiar characters with new ones. The studio also started standalone spinoff films such as Rogue One and the upcoming Solo, a peek at Han Solo’s younger days.

Lucasfilm and Disney did not give release dates for the new films but joked that there “have (thankfully) been no sightings of White Walkers around Lucasfilm.”
