  • Keira Knightley Bans Her Daughter From Seeing These Disney Movies

Keira Knightley Bans Her Daughter From Seeing These Disney Movies

Keira Knightley, best known for her role as Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean, is a Disney regular at this point. She is also starring in Disney’s upcoming “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” but that doesn’t mean she agrees with the messages in every Disney movie the studio has released.

The 33-year-old British actress was recently on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and she says her 3-year-old daughter, Edie Knightley Righton, is “banned” from watching certain Disney movies.

On the list is the 1950 animated classic “Cinderella.” “Banned,” Knightley said, “because she waits around for a rich guy to rescue her. Don’t! Rescue yourself, obviously!” Take a look at the interview below.

Another film to make the banned list is “The Little Mermaid.” This one has her “quite annoyed,” says Knightley, “because I really like the film.”

“I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello!” she told host Ellen DeGeneres. “But the problem with ‘The Little Mermaid’ is I love ‘The Little Mermaid!’ That one’s a little tricky — but I’m keeping to it.”

Knightley’s passionate take on the feminist issues surrounding princess plots is no surprise, as she recently contributed an essay about giving birth to the book Feminists Don’t Wear Pink and Other Lies.

  • ‘Star Wars’ Chief Kathleen Kennedy’s Lucasfilm Deal Extended for Three Years

‘Star Wars’ Chief Kathleen Kennedy’s Lucasfilm Deal Extended for Three Years

The force is strong with Kathleen Kennedy who took command of Lucasfilm after Disney’s $4 billion acquisition from George Lucas in 2012. Kennedy has renewed her contract to remain president of Lucasfilm for another three years, through 2021.

The move is a vote of confidence in Kennedy, who has had a tumultuous year following the disappointing box office returns that “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” suffered and behind-the-scenes drama after the studio dismissed directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller well into production. They were replaced by Ron Howard, who was tasked with bringing home the pricey standalone which came with a $250 million price tag.

Kennedy weathered the storm following the drama and backlash, but many fans were left contemplating what her future with the company would be.

Kennedy’s stamp has been on every project post-Disney, including the behemoth “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Gareth Edwards’ “Rogue One,” and Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”

A spinoff development slate, which included a possible standalone for “Star Wars” character Boba Fett, has been shelved. Her attention will now be directed to a new core trilogy beginning with “Star Wars: Episode IX” directed by J.J. Abrams.

Kennedy counts eight Academy Award nominations for Best Picture as a producer, including films like “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

  • Whoopi Goldberg Confirms Role in Disney’s ‘Sister Act’ Reboot

Whoopi Goldberg Confirms Role in Disney’s ‘Sister Act’ Reboot

The “Sister Act franchise is making a comeback, and franchise star Whoopi Goldberg will also be returning, but not in the way you think as the iconic actress will only have a cameo in the film.

Last year, a star-studded reunion with the original cast from “Sister Act,” aired on “The View” in celebration of the films 25th anniversary. “The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg was asked if she would be on board for a “Sister Act 3?” “Well yeah, I would,” she replied. “It would take a script and Marc Shaiman.”

Though the direction of the film wasn’t clear at the time, Whoopi revealed last week during interview on Good Morning Britain that there will not be a “Sister Act 3”, but a reboot of the series.

Whoopi was asked if fans would ever get to see Sister Act 3 happen. “So we’ve been all over Disney begging and they’ve decided that they are going to go in a different direction with Sister Act,” Goldberg said. “So it won’t be Sister Act 3 it will be a brand new rendition of Sister Act.”

Goldberg said she would probably only have a cameo role in the movie, adding: “I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”

Though Whoopi Goldberg has a ton of iconic roles under her nun’s habit, the character of Deloris Van Cartier is perhaps the most beloved of the bunch, aside from those deranged lunatics who love dinophobe detective Katie Coltrane in Theodore Rex. Fans have wanted to see Sister Act 3 for years.

It’s been 25 years since 1993’s “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit”, which starred Goldberg alongside Lauryn Hill. The film built on the introduction of Deloris Van Cartier, aka Sister Mary Clarence, in the first “Sister Act”released in 1992.

Sister Act was a critical and box office success, making more than $319 million worldwide making it one of the highest grossing movies of 1992 and sequel “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” followed in 1993.

  • Tim Allen Says Toy Story 4 Is ‘So Emotional’ He ‘Couldn’t Even Get Through the Last Scene’

Tim Allen Says Toy Story 4 Is ‘So Emotional’ He ‘Couldn’t Even Get Through the Last Scene’

Tim Allen, who has voiced Buzz Lightyear in every Toy Story film, recently appeared on The Talk on Wednesday, where he discussed the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise. Tim Allen wouldn’t reveal any plot details for the film, but he did tell them how emotional this story is.

Pixar is keeping details pertaining to the plot and characters under wraps, but it should be a good sign that 65-year-old actor, who has portrayed Buzz Lightyear throughout the films, seems genuinely touched by the story.

He was asked if he was hard at work on the beloved film by co-host Sara Gilbert and Allen replied, “Yes, I gotta resist getting emotional. I don’t want to give it away, but this is an incredibly great story. It is so emotional, it’s so funny, it’s so big, the idea they’ve come up with, I’m startled. I couldn’t even get through the last scene.” Take a look at the interview below.

He said he wished he could be a “Washington leaker,” but he stopped himself, explaining, “I just can’t do it. I can’t give any more away. They’ve got great characters but a couple of scenes toward the end were really hard to get through.”

Many of the iconic characters that first captured audiences in 1995 return to the screen in Toy Story 4.

Tom Hanks returns as the voice of Woody, while Joan Cusack, Bonnie Hunt and Laurie Metcalf reprise their roles of Jessie, Dolly and Mrs. Davis, respectively. Randy Newman also returns as the composer of the film. He was nominated for Best Original Song in 1996 for the film’s theme song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

Josh Cooley is now helming the film after John Lasseter stepped down from the project and Stephany Folsom has been tapped to pen the next installment of the franchise after, actress Rashida Jones left due to “creative and philosophical differences” in November 2017.

    Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” hits theaters June 21, 2019.

  • Disney Restores Princess Tiana To Her Former Look In ‘Wreck-It Ralph 2’ After Backlash

Disney Restores Princess Tiana To Her Former Look In ‘Wreck-It Ralph 2’ After Backlash

The trailers for “Ralph Breaks The Internet” was a huge success and fans went wild for the new 3D animated versions of all the Disney princesses the film introduced. Some changes were made to some of the princesses, but when people saw the difference between the new and old Tiana, many accused the company of whitewashing the character.

After the social media backlash, Disney went straight back to the drawing board to redesign Disney princess Tiana whose skin had been lightened and facial features changed in trailers for “Ralph Breaks The Internet.”

The studio darkened her skin and widened her nose so she looks more like the animated character appeared in 2009′s “The Princess and the Frog,” The Wall Street Journal reported last week.

Back in August, fans noticed that in a scene with other Disney princesses in the “Wreck-It Ralph” sequel, Tiana’s features appeared more Eurocentric than in previous promos. Some accused Disney of whitewashing the character.

Disney met with Anika Noni Rose, who voices the princess, as well as other animators and black advocacy group Color of Change to collaborate on what changes Tiana needed. The result shows a darker princess in the latest teaser, who looks more like the original character with similar features.

“Disney’s decision to restore Princess Tiana’s image to that of an unapologetically Black princess with full lips, dark skin and dark hair in ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’ is a victory for Color Of Change members, black children and their parents, and black audiences who want to see the variety of shades, shapes and sizes of black characters accurately represented in the arts,” Collins-Dexter, of Color of Change, said in a statement to WSJ.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” is in theaters Nov. 21.

  • Disney CEO on Fox’s X-Men: ‘There Shouldn’t Be Two Marvels’

Disney CEO on Fox’s X-Men: ‘There Shouldn’t Be Two Marvels’

Disney recently acquired Fox and its assets, including X-Men and various other Marvel titles, raising questions about how Disney plans to integrate the franchises into the MCU. In a recent interview, Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed his own ideas on the future Fox’s “X-Men” franchise, and it doesn’t exactly involve Fox

Iger has said, he’d like Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to oversee the franchise after Disney’s acquisition of Fox, but didn’t want to make any definitive statements because of what has already been communicated to Fox.

“I think it only makes sense,” Iger said. “I want to be careful here because of what’s been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn’t be two Marvels.”

At this point it’s clear the “X-Men” franchise in its current iteration are at an end and a reboot into the MCU seems like a strong possibility.

Disney is developing a TV series spinning off of the MCU that would star Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and characters that haven’t been introduced yet, according to a report from Variery. Feige would have a “hands-on role” in the making of them.

A Scarlet Witch TV series being in the works could mean Disney is already thinking of ways it can include X-Men characters into the MCU. In the comics, Scarlet Witch is the daughter of X-Men villain Magneto.

Iger’s comments have added a little fuel to the fire for fans who would love to see Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, and others fighting side-by-side with the likes of the MCU’s Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and more.
