First Look: Disney Reveals First ‘Captain Marvel’ Trailer

Disney debuted the first trailer of Brie Larson’s “Captain Marvel” earlier today during the Oscar winner’s appearance on “Good Morning America.”

The footage opens up with Carol Danvers in her Starforce uniform crash landing in a Blockbuster, pulling S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury into a world of possibility. Fury tells Danvers he was “ready to hang it up until I met you today.” What does Carol’s arrival mean for S.H.I.E.L.D. and Earth, at large? From the looks of it, a war between the Kree and the Skrulls.

Danvers reveals she’s not entirely sure what her connection to Earth is; however, she has memories and flashes of her previous life as a child, a cadet, an Air Force pilot. What makes a hero? The powerful montage of witnessing Danvers getting right back up again every time she falls gives viewers a glimpse of who Carol Danvers has always been. Take a look at the full trailer below!

We’re 170 days away from cosmic hero Carol Danvers’ Marvel Cinematic Universe debut when “Captain Marvel” lands in theaters next year, March 8, 2019. If the trailer is any indication, we’re in for a mighty blockbuster full of space invasions, big car chases, and seeing our lead go full binary!

  • NEW ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer Just Released and It’s Practically Perfect In Every Way

NEW ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer Just Released and It’s Practically Perfect In Every Way

It must be a Jolly Holiday today, because Disney has just drop a new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns and it is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! More than five decades after Julie Andrews won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the original Mary Poppins, a follow-up sequel is finally here!

The footage opens with Mary descending from the clouds and visiting the grown-up Banks kids. Michael marvels, “You seem hardly to have aged at all.” Aghast, Mary replies, “Really? One never discusses a woman’s age, Michael. Would have hoped I taught you better.”

“Mary Poppins Returns” picks up 25 years after the events of the first film, during the mid-1930s in London. But by now Michael is all grown up with a wife and three children who are all living in his parents’ old house on No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Take a look at the trailer below:

This new trailer dives fully into the sequel’s plot and offers a sneak peek of its various musical numbers. There’s also a gorgeous animated sequence in the style of the original film, and what sounds like a delightfully questionable Cockney accent from Miranda. It wouldn’t be a Mary Poppins movie without one.

“Mary Poppins Returns” stars: Emily Blunt as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure; Lin-Manuel Miranda as her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London; Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks; and Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen.

The film also introduces three new Banks’ children played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books.  In addition to Colin Firth and Angela Lansbury, the film also sees the return of Dick Van Dyke, playing the son of Mr. Dawes, a character he portrayed in the original movie. Van Dyke is the only actor from the first film who’s reprising a role in the sequel

The film is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay by David Magee and screen story by Magee & Marshall & John DeLuca based upon The Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The producers are Marshall, DeLuca and Marc Platt with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer and the music is by Marc Shaiman with songs by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Mary Poppins Returns will hit theaters Christmas 2018.

“On set of our DISNEY’S JUNGLE CRUISE and I made friends with a big ‘ol hungry Anaconda. ” he said in the post.

Johnson, who appears to be having the time of his life in the Amazon, is seen alongside co-star Jack Whitehall who looks terrified as you can see in the picture below. Johnson praised Whitehall in the post, stating he “did his best to smile thru his fear of snakes.”

Johnson said he signed the biggest contact of his career in a video posted on social media back in May. The film is a live-action adaptation of Disneyland’s iconic theme park ride which takes guests on a guided tour through Africa’s Nile and Congo rivers to South America’s Amazon. Disney hopes to develop the film as a possible franchise much like its billion-dollar “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

  • RUMOR: Disney’s Streaming Service May Have Finally Found a Name

RUMOR: Disney’s Streaming Service May Have Finally Found a Name

Disney’s new DTC (direct to consumer) streaming service is meant to be a direct competitor with Netflix and hopefully give the company a serious foothold in the streaming market.  Well now details have emerged and Disney’s upcoming streaming service may finally have a name and no it’s not “Disneyflix”.

According to Variety, Disney CEO Bob Iger has referred to the service as Disney Play. At this point it’s unclear if this will in fact be the final name for the video platform or if it’s more of a working title.

Once ties are severed with Netflix for good, Disney will be losing an estimated $300 million in annual revenue from Netflix for pay-TV rights.

Beginning in 2019, Captain Marvel and every Disney film released in theaters will no longer Netflix and instead will make their way to Disney Play. Ant-Man and the Wasp will also now be the last Marvel movie to come to Netflix.

Regardless of the final name Disney’s steaming service is set to launch sometime in 2019.

  • Disney Offers Free Tuition For 80,000 Hourly Workers

Disney Offers Free Tuition For 80,000 Hourly Workers

The Walt Disney Co. is offering to pay full tuition for hourly workers who want to earn a college degree, finish a high school diploma or learn a new skill, the entertainment giant said Wednesday.

As many as 80,000 hourly workers in the United States could be eligible for the program, which pays upfront tuition for employees taking online classes starting this fall.

Disney initially will invest $50 million into the “Disney Aspire” program and up to $25 million a year after that, the company said.

“We can’t wait to see what paths our cast members take with Disney Aspire,” the company said in a blog post.

Disney joins other large corporations that have begun paying tuition for workers in a job market with historically low unemployment. In May, Walmart said it will offer workers the chance to get a college degree at three universities with online programs.

Starbucks partnered with Arizona State University to offer tuition coverage for U.S. workers earning a bachelor’s degree.

Disney is rolling out its program in phases, with the first limited to online classes. In-classroom courses could be added if there’s demand for them, a spokeswoman said.

Disney’s program is being administered by Guild Education, the same Denver-based firm operating Walmart’s program.
