Disney has been stepping up their ear game lately and if you’re a Haunted mansion fan then the newest Haunted mansion inspired Mickey ears and Minnie headbands appearing at Disney Parks will have you screaming with ghoulish delight.

The new headwear has three different designs. The first is a Mickey ear hat inspired by the Hatbox Ghost complete with his iconic white hair, gold tooth and top hat.

There are also a couple of Minnie Ear head bands that are to die for. There is a perfect pair that features the Haunted Mansion wallpaper pattern on the ears with a bow made from the same pattern as the Cast Member costumes complete with a lace lining and a gargoyle.

Another pair draws inspiration from Ally Gal herself.  The ears are subtle and classy and  share the same pattern as the Tightrope Girls dress with a pink sheer bow.

  • Disneyland Resort Cast Members Annual Canoe Races Tradition Returns

Disneyland Resort Cast Members Annual Canoe Races Tradition Returns

After a two-year hiatus to accommodate work on the Rivers of America, the annual Cast Member Canoe Races have returned! Nearly 70 teams from around the Walt Disney Company rising early for the pre-park opening dash around the river participated in the event.

The canoe races began in 1963 when a challenge was set forth between the Frontierland cast and Adventureland cast, igniting a tradition that has spread to the Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Being a cast member at the Disneyland Resort is a special experience with a long and rich history of traditions and exclusive opportunities that are unlike anything else. However, ask any cast member who’s worked here for several decades what the must-do cast-exclusive event is, and nearly all will tell you without hesitation, it’s the Canoe Races.

Disneyland Resort Cast Members Annual Canoe Races

“This brings the cast together in a way no other event can,” said Cast Activities Program Manager Rick Henson, who began his Disney career as a merchandise host at the Disneyland Hotel 37 years ago, and has helped oversee the Canoe Races for the last 16 years. “I’ve had cast members tell me how they heard about the races before they started working here, and it was so special once they became a cast member to be able to form a team. I’m honored to be the person who gets to put on these races and keep the tradition alive.”

Cast Member, Friends and Family 5K

While Canoe Races represent the long legacy of cast traditions, newer cast-exclusive opportunities that promote wellness and healthy living have also become popular annual events, including Sunrise Yoga at Sleeping Beauty Castle and the Cast Member, Friends and Family 5K, which took place Saturday, July 14.

Tim Sullivan is the Fitness Program Manager in charge of coordinating the early morning run through the parks, and says these events serve as a kind of family reunion for cast members.

“We have so many cast members that have been working here for a number of years,” says Tim, who himself is a 22-year Disneyland Resort veteran, starting his career as a Jungle Cruise Skipper. “It’s so fun to see them run into each other and talk about where they are now in their professional Disney careers, introduce their families and reminisce about their time together working in the parks. This place means a lot to so many of us, and to be able to have these events in the park, before or after hours is really special.”

Cast members pride themselves on creating happiness – for the guests and for each other – and having opportunities to enjoy the Disneyland Resort in unique and exclusive ways is one longstanding tradition that will always be a special part of being a cast member.

  • Happy Birthday Disneyland! The “Happiest Place on Earth” Celebrates 63 Years of Magic

Happy Birthday Disneyland! The “Happiest Place on Earth” Celebrates 63 Years of Magic

On this day in 1955, the “Happiest Place on Earth” opened its doors for the first time and now Disneyland celebrates its 63rd anniversary!

The original Disney theme park celebrates another year during its first-ever Pixar Fest. The “Happiest March on Earth” included 63 Disney characters, Dapper Dans barbershop quartet, and the Disneyland Resort Ambassadors marching down Main Street U.S.A.

Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 to over 31,000 specially invited guests, including; Art Linkletter, Ronald Reagan, Bob Cummings, the Mouseketeers, Frank Sinatra, California Governor Goodwin J. Knight and Walt Disney who uttered the immortal words, “To all who come to this happy place, welcome…”

When the theme park opened it was hailed by many as the eighth wonder of the world and admission was $1 including tax for adults and 50 cents for children under 12. To take in all the attractions at Disneyland guests, priced at 15 to 50 cents, it cost an adult $8.70 and a child $5.15.

It was broadcasted on ABC and it was the biggest live telecast to date! The following day, Disneyland officially opened to the public. Disneyland, located in Anaheim, California on what used to be a 160-acre orange orchard, cost $17 million to build. The original park included Main Street, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.

7 Ways to Stay Cool While Exploring the Disneyland Resort

With temperatures heating up in Southern California, you may be looking for a few cool tips to beat the heat during your summer visit to the Disneyland Resort. Here are my favorite experiences and attractions to enjoy during the toasty summer months.

    Mickey and the Magical Map

Take in a Show – With favorites like “Disney Junior Dance Party!” or “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” at Disney California Adventure park and Mickey and the Magical Map at Disneyland park, escape the sun and take a rest while enjoying these immersive shows featuring some of your favorite Disney characters and stories.

    Disneyland Train

Cruise Around – Catch a ride aboard your choice of resort transportation: Red Car Trolley, Disneyland Monorail, Main Street Vehicles or Disneyland Railroad. Not only are these short rides ideal to rest your feet, but they are also great to catch the sights from a different perspective!

    Anna and Elsa

Cross Paths with Characters – Choose the Light Side or Dark Side as you step into Star Wars Launch Bay at Disneyland park to meet characters like Rey or Kylo Ren. At Disney California Adventure park, encounter Arendelle sisters at Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome. These character experiences offer a cool indoors escape. Be sure to check the Entertainment times guide upon your arrival, as encounter times are subject to change.

The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure

Journey Under the Sea – Get ready to dive into the ocean at Disney California Adventure park. Join Nemo and friends at Turtle Talk with Crush, then experience magical moments on The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.

    Splitsville Downtown Disney Disneyland

Break for Bowling – Take a break from the theme parks and head to Splitsville Luxury Lanes in Downtown Disney District for a bite and some bowling! The 40,000-square-foot restaurant serves delicious fare in a mod setting.

    Tom Sawyer Island DL

Set out on an Adventure – Journey over to Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyland park for an afternoon of exploring! Soaring trees and mysterious caves dot the island’s landscape, providing a leisurely (and cool) stroll.

    Splash Mountain DL

Get Soaked – Of course, there is nothing like cooling off on a warm day on a water attraction like Splash Mountain in Disneyland park or Grizzly River Run in Disney California Adventure park.

Lastly, be sure to maximize your day with Disney MaxPass. You’ll not only get unlimited PhotoPass downloads for the day, but also have the convenience of digital Disney FASTPASS selections on your mobile device–allowing you to avoid the lines and beat the heat!

Once inside Disney Parks, Snapchatters will gain access to the special lenses in the Snapchat filter carousel.

“We love working with our partners Disney,” said Snap Inc. VP Ben Schwerin, “to create augmented-reality experiences that allow our users to connect with some of their favorite characters in a totally new way.”
