  • Sweet Spells At Hollywood Studios Closing To Make Room For Pixar Store

Sweet Spells At Hollywood Studios Closing To Make Room For Pixar Store

In preparation of Toy Story Land There opening this summer there is some bittersweet news coming from Disney’s Hollywood Studios today.  Beverly Sunset Sweet Spells on Sunset Blvd will be closing permanently on April 16 2018 to make way for a Pixar store.

The shop is known for it’s the scary and sweet treats that lurk inside the “theater” as well as Disney Villain merchandise and house-made candy. It’s unclear how the refurbishment will affect the theater-like exterior of famous snack spot.

After the refurbishment is finished the shop will be the only place in the park where you will be able to find Pixar Merchandise other than Toy Story Land itself. The Sweet Spells production kitchen will be removed, but you will still be able to find some of the prepackaged favorites when the new store opens.

The new got to spot for Pixar merchandise is set to open alongside Toy Story Land on June 30 2018.

  • Breaking: Hollywood Studios Getting Marvel Land As Disney Regains East Coast Marvel Rights Iger Revealed at Shareholder Meeting

Breaking: Hollywood Studios Getting Marvel Land As Disney Regains East Coast Marvel Rights Iger Revealed at Shareholder Meeting

The largest hurdle Disney World has had to overcome in bringing more Marvel attractions to its parks, other than those based on franchises like “Guardians of the Galaxy“, is the fact that Universal Studios owns the east coast rights to most of the Marvel lineup. Well in a shocking turn of events, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced at the most recent shareholders meeting that Disney has negotiated a deal to bring the rights home to Disney and they will officially be adding a Marvel Land to Hollywood Studios.

“We think this will be a good thing. Marvel belongs home with Disney and we now have the opportunity to tell the stories of these characters in way like only Disney can.” Iger said.  The audience laughed as he joked, “It’s always a little odd when you have to rent back your own property from someone who is renting it from you.” The deal is quite intricate he explained and there are no details on how exactly it was worked out. This comes on the heels of a recent announcement that Disneyland Parks around the globe are already getting Marvel themed lands and now Disney World wont be left out on the super hero action!

He was tight-lipped about some of the upcoming changes, but he did drop some bombs on what the future of Hollywood Studios will look like with the addition of Marvel Land. First and what will probably be most up setting for fans is that the area will be located around the Tower of Terror area where just like in California, the attraction will be converted to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Iger made the announcement as he unveiled the only piece of concept art that he used during his speech as you can see in the photo below:

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!

The ride is expected to be operational by late 2020, well before construction for Marvel Land is complete. “The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Hollywood Studios”, Iger said.

There will be a Marvel themed restaurant, of course multiple retail locations, and other attractions, but the only other attraction change Iger mentioned during the meeting was Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.  The contract with Aerosmith was renewed not too long ago and it’s always a question of if they will continue renewing. Well I guess we have our answer, because in a statement that Iger let Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek deliver, he said, “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be transformed into an Ironman themed coaster that will immerse guests in a fantastic new thrilling adventure like never before.”

Iger said that the project can be expected to be fully completed by 2022 and those rides that will be getting overhauls will remain open for as long as possible to minimize the impact on guests during construction of new addition of Marvel Land. Work will begin on Tower of Terror first and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close temporarily while construction on the entire new land begins.

Fans have already been lighting up the internet as they are upset about the changing of more classic rides and it didn’t take long for the petitions to begin either. Change is hard and if you have loved Hollywood Studios since the day it opened in 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios, then this might be a hard one for you, but this is a change that is necessary for “Disney’s vision of the park’s future” Iger said in his final words at the meeting.

Walt Disney himself knew that his parks would continue to change and evolve. “As long as there is imagination left in the world”, said Walt. He also believed in a good laugh and a good joke so we hope you enjoyed this one. Happy April Fools Day…  Oh yeah and Happy Easter. If anyone happens to be upset that the news isn’t true, don’t worry, there are Marvel Lands that are going to be popping up at nearly every other Disney Park on the Planet.  And if you can’t make it out of Florida, we actually have our own Marvel Land right here…  at Universal Studios. 🙂

There are so many things this land has to offer that it is truly the toy box of your childhood dreams and Disney has revealed that guests will be able to meet their favorite Pixar characters right in Andy’s Backyard.

Inside this new land, you’ll have the chance to encounter characters from Disney•Pixar “Toy Story” films, including Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl.

Woody, Buzz and Jessie will be greeting guests throughout Toy Story Land on a daily basis. And each character (along with the rest of the gang) will be joining in on the fun in a land where guests “shrink” to the size of a toy. Guests will be also be able to take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit, or take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, a galactic play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet.

Toy Story Land guests can also walk through a new carnival game box to experience Toy Story Mania!, which has been a guest-favorite attraction at the park since it opened in 2008. Now expanded with a third track, the popular attraction will allow even more guests to take aim at 3D objects – using everything from baseballs to cream pies – in a variety of whimsical, fast-paced games.

Wheezy Arrives at Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney Imagineering marked a another milestone in their creation of the highly anticipated Toy Story Land when they welcomed Wheezy to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this weekend. The squeaky toy penguin from the Disney•Pixar “Toy Story” films is the latest of Andy’s toys to appear in Toy Story Land, which so far already features Jessie, Rex and Slinky Dog.

When Toy Story Land opens, guests will “shrink” to the size of a toy and join in on the fun Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and the rest of the gang are having in Andy’s backyard. Guests will be able to take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit, or take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, a galactic play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet.

  • Entrance For Exclusive Club 33 Hollywood Studios’s Location Discovered

Entrance For Exclusive Club 33 Hollywood Studios’s Location Discovered

We still have no official announcement from Disney about Club 33 coming to Walt Disney World, but it certainly seems that it’s inevitable at this point.  Today there is some more conformation that not only is it coming, but the posh club will most certainly have a location in all four parks. Recently some new clues may have tipped off the location of the club planned for Hollywood Studios.

It has been rumored that the location for Disney’s Hollywood Studios Club 33 will be the former Catwalk Bar located behind The Hollywood Brown Derby and now after WDW News Today posted a picture on Twitter showing a speaker system next to the entrance it seems that inevitability is getting closer and closer.

The speaker is used to communicate with guests coming in and it is a very similar system set up outside Club 33 at Disneyland. This intercom set up with a doorbell is also very similar to one just found installed at The American adventure in Epcot.  That setup had a MagicBand reader and even though there doesn’t appear to be one here, you can clearly see where one might go in the further.

There is no official word on where the various locations will be, but in addition to this location at Hollywood Studios and the one at Epcot, other rumored locations include; the Adventureland Veranda at the Magic Kingdom and a back room at Tiffins at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

So far the rumors have been pretty accurate if the rather obvious assumptions for speaker systems turn out to be true.

D23 Expo Reveals New Details For Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Hollywood Studios

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction and it is opening in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and after the D23 Expo Japan on Sunday we now have some exciting new details about the attraction.

Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Bob Chapek, announced the opening year and showed how they are pulling out all of the stops to make Mickey’s first attraction an unbelievable experience for everyone. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new catchy theme song created especially for the attraction as well as a new experience that defies logic that we’re calling 2 ½-D. No glasses required.

On the attraction, the fun begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie getting ready for a picnic. As they head out, they drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment lets you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky, wild ride.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will put you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon Short where you’re the star and anything can happen. And for the first time, we shared a preview of what the cars will look like when you board the attraction for a zany, out-of-control adventure filled with surprising twists and turns.

The teams helping create the attraction are currently working with partners at Disney Television Animation—the people who create the popular and award-winning Mickey Shorts – to keep the characters and story authentic and to make sure you’re able to step through the movie screen and join Mickey and his friends like never before.
