Last night, Super Heroes assembled to celebrate the momentous dedication of Avengers Campus in an epic ceremony at Disney California Adventure park!
Disney CEO Bob Chapek was joined in front of Avengers Headquarters near the shining Quinjet by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Marvel Studios President/Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, along with Paul Rudd, star of the “Ant-Man” films, and Anthony Mackie from the hit Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
Disney live-streamed the opening ceremony of Avengers Campus last night. In case you missed it, you can watch the entire ceremony below:
An entirely new land, Avengers Campus is devoted to discovering, recruiting and training the next generation of Super Heroes. Guests will join Avengers and their allies to live out their Super Hero dreams in this fully immersive land that mixes innovation with storytelling, and fun for all ages.
Avengers Campus officially opens tomorrow, June 4!
In a recent D23 fan club email, Disney confirmed that Avengers Campus, the upcoming Marvel-themed attraction at Disney’s California Adventure park, is expected to open in this year.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Disneyland had to alter or delay many of its plans for 2020. While the park has been closed since March of last year and still has no confirmed date for reopening, the company is apparently planning to get back on schedule and Avengers Campus will debut in 2021 in California Adventure at Disneyland Resort.
Avengers Campus invites you to team up with the Avengers and their allies in a fully immersive land at Disney California Adventure park. Avengers Campus is comprised of several heroic locations—each hosted by a different Super Hero or their ally—to share their unique powers, technology and knowledge with recruits. Take a look below at all the details:
Sling webs with Spider-Man
The first key location, the Worldwide Engineering Brigade—also known as WEB—is home to the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature a favorite neighborhood her: Spider-Man. This new family-friendly attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, invites guests to put their web-slinging skills to the test.
The innovative technology adapted specifically for this attraction includes a seamless blend of 3D and new interface, which allows guests to go on a mission and experience what it’s like to have super powers and sling webs alongside Spider-Man.
WEB is all about how bright young innovators like Peter Parker are inventing new technologies that let all of us become Super Heroes. Being able to authentically represent Peter’s character was a critical element to our story, and thanks to our Studio partners, I’m excited to share that Tom Holland will reprise his role as part of this attraction experience. It was an honor to get to work with Tom, and I can’t wait for guests to experience the amazing talent, humor, and heart he’s bringing to this attraction when it opens this summer.
“Suit up” with the latest gear, including Spider-Bots from WEB
The WEB Suppliers store is where you will find the latest WEB inventions, including interactive Spider-Bots much like the ones you will see in the new attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. Each Spider-Bot has a remote control, and all eight articulated legs move forward and backward. Best of all, you can tap into your inner WEB inventor by customizing your Spider-Bot with tactical upgrades to harness the powers and styles of favorite Super Heroes, including Black Panther, Iron Man and Black Widow, as well as Ant-Man and The Wasp.
Other must-have items at WEB Suppliers include a specially-designed backpack to carry Spider-Bots when they are not in action, Spider-Man light goggles, a take-home spider web kit and Funko Pop! vinyl figurines of Spider-Man and Iron Man.
Nearby, the Campus Supply Pod is the place to power up with official Avengers Campus gear, including performance fleece hoodies and tees, headwear, drinkware and other Super Hero supplies.
Enjoy tiny treats and big bites
When it’s time to take a break from the heroics, three new dining spots at Avengers Campus will offer dishes that are rich in both flavor and storytelling.
Pym Test Kitchen is a food innovation science lab where the food and drinks tell a story. Just as Ant-Man and The Wasp use “Pym Particles” to grow and shrink just about anything, Pym Technologies applies this innovative science to the creation of shareable bites, inventive-sized entrees and sweet treats. You will be able to taste-test such items as the Impossible™ plant-based large and micro meatballs with pasta, or the “Pym-ini,” a panini served by the slice or as a long, multi-portion sandwich.
Adjacent to the Pym Test Kitchen, an oversized beer can overhead signals that grown-up beverage tastings are available at Pym Tasting Lab. Adults can order a craft beer, ranging from a blood orange hefeweizen to an amber lager or try one of the Pym Research Staff’s Pym Particle-infused cocktail experiments.
Next, the Avengers have invited the crew of their favorite “shawarma joint” in New York, the Shawarma Palace, to open a second location at the Campus. Enjoy favorite shawarma-inspired snacks at this food cart, which is decked out with memorabilia since the Shawarma Palace owners are huge Avenger fans. Lastly, Taneleer Tivan did not limit his collection to lovable misfits; he is also curating a weird and wonderful menu of intergalactic eats at the Terran Treats food cart near Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
Team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy
Speaking of, we will continue to celebrate Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, the fan-favorite attraction that opened in 2017, as one of the anchor attractions of Avengers Campus. This rockin’ adventure blasts you straight into the “Guardians of the Galaxy” story, alongside characters from the blockbuster films and comics. As you help Rocket bust his pals out of the Collector’s Fortress, you will experience raucous mayhem, music inspired by the soundtracks from the movies and thrilling free-fall drop sequences!
Encounter a formidable villain in a land full of heroes
Last but certainly not least, throughout Avengers Campus, Super Heroes will come to life in ways that are more exciting than ever. You may have heroic encounters with Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, the Dora Milaje, Thor and even villains like Loki. We’re excited to also share that Ant-Man and The Wasp will be making their first appearances in the park, and Iron Man himself will be debuting his new armor in Avengers Campus: the Mark 80.
You may even have the chance to witness Spider-Man swinging into action high above Avengers Campus with gravity-defying, acrobatic feats never seen before in a Disney theme park.
At a nearby ancient sanctum, Doctor Strange will train recruits in the mystic arts by bringing this ancient sanctum to life with powerful spells. At night, the area glows even more vividly with majestic colors and lights, pulsating with mystic energy.
Finally, every hero needs a formidable villain to fight… the villainous Taskmaster, who will have a role in the upcoming film “Black Widow,” will be seen for the first time at a Disney park at Avengers Campus. Taskmaster’s abilities include photographic reflexes. Taskmaster can replicate Super Hero moves, making this new villain a balanced foe for the Campus heroes.
Disney has just announced that Avengers Campus—an entirely new land dedicated to discovering, recruiting and training the next generation of heroes—will open July 18, 2020 at the Disneyland Resort!
And that’s only the beginning… today they are also unveiling their new attraction’s name, exciting casting news, rich details about the land itself and brand-new artist concept renderings.

Disneyland’s upcoming Marvel-themed Land will feature a new Spider-Man ride that will let riders shoot virtual webs from their wrists and now Disney has revealed that a real-life friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be swinging above the rooftops in the new land.
Imagineers are hard at work to bring to life an amazing new experience at Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure which will be the home of the new Spider-Man experience, housed in the Worldwide Engineering Brigade — aka, WEB — and will be the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature the webslinger.
Check out the amazing video below of Spider-Man practicing some of his amazing acrobatic feats at a top secret location:
Visitors to WEB will find themselves helping Spider-Man try and catch “spider-bots” that need to be web’ed-up. During the panel it was also explained that guests on the attraction will be able to shoot their own webs out of their wrists via immersive technology. Also, if you happen to spot Spider-Man walking around the Avengers Campus, he’ll be wearing an exclusive Spidey-suit.
When Avengers Campus opens this summer, guests will be recruited to become the next generation of Super Heroes. The campus will be home to a variety of new experiences giving guests the chance to feel the power, adventure and exhilaration of teaming up with some of their favorite Super Heroes including:
The Worldwide Engineering Brigade – also known as “WEB” – which will house the new Spider-Man attraction where guests can sling webs alongside Spider-Man himself.
Pym Test Kitchen, an all-new eatery, where Pym Technologies Researchers are using Ant-Man and the Wasp’s growing and shrinking technology to create super-sized and super small foods.
Heroic encounters throughout the campus where guests can team up with some of their favorite Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and the Dora Milaje, Thor and Loki, Iron Man and for the first time, Ant-Man and The Wasp.
Avengers Headquarters where guests may witness Earth’s Mightiest Heroes springing into action at a moment’s notice all over the building.
Disney has plans to bring more Marvel Lands to Disney Parks across the globe and Disneyland’s version, knows as Avengers Campus, has now been officially announced to be coming in summer 2020!
You will be able to team up with some of your favorite Avengers at Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure park when it opens and as we’ve previously shared, this campus is set up by the Avengers to recruit the next generation of Super Heroes.
Avengers Campus is home to the Worldwide Engineering Brigade – also known as “WEB” – which will house our new Spider-Man experience, the first Disney ride-through attraction to feature this iconic Super Hero.
During an open house at WEB, the aspiring inventors are excited to invite you for a test drive of their latest invention: the “Web Slinger” vehicle, which allows you to sling webs just like Spider-Man! The attraction gives you a taste of what it’s like to have actual super powers as you help Spider-Man collect Spider-Bots that have run amok.
Avengers Campus will also feature Pym Test Kitchen. Just as Ant-Man and The Wasp use “Pym Particles” to grow and shrink just about anything, Pym Technologies is using the latest innovations to grow and shrink food at this eatery.
You will also find heroic encounters throughout the campus, including Black Widow, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Super Heroes from Wakanda and Asgard, and Iron Man.
As Super Heroes continue to assemble at the campus, one of its iconic buildings will be the Avengers Headquarters where you should be on the lookout for Avengers in action.
As we previously reported, Disney has plans to bring Marvel Land to Disneyland Resort and now those plans are in full swing as the company has recently obtained permits to begin the expansion.
Last year, CEO Bob Iger teased the expansion to the company’s California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort, and it seems Disney is moving full steam ahead to bring its popular superhero franchise to parkgoers.
The city of Anaheim has approved a handful of building permits for projects such as a bathroom overhaul, a retail outlet, a microbrewery, a character meet-and-greet area, plus improvements to behind-the-scenes buildings
The construction permits assess the value of the work so far at more than $14 million, according to an L.A. Times report.
Licensing agreements that predated Disney’s 2009 acquisition of Marvel Entertainment bans the word “Marvel” from appearing on any theme-park land. However, it is possible that Disney has found a way around that either legally or by using the word “Avengers” in its place.
Today, Disney released new exciting details on their plans to bring more Marvel Heroes to Disney Parks across the globe.
They’re calling it the Global Avengers Initiative where they are assembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and soon fans will be able to interact with their favorite cinematic and comic book superheroes in a whole new way at Disney theme parks around the world.
The studio has confirmed several details about its Marvel theme park characters, and below you can find a breakdown of which characters are getting specialized rides or attractions at each Disney park.
“My team and I are collaborating closely with our partners across Studios and Entertainment to create exciting experiences and attractions where you can join your favorite Super Heroes at Disney Parks and Resorts,” said creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering’s Global Marvel Portfolio Scot Drake. “Together, we are expanding this epic story universe in a way that, for the first time ever, will allow you to take on an active role alongside these Super Heroes.”
These interconnected stories are coming to life at our Disney Parks. In Hong Kong Disneyland, guests have already started battling the forces of Hydra in the Iron Man Experience. Beginning in March 2019, they will join Ant-Man and Wasp in a fight against Arnim Zola and his army of evil Hydra Swarm-bots in the all-new interactive attraction, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! In Disney California Adventure park, guests have been helping the Guardians escape the Collector’s Fortress in Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! And soon, in both Disney California Adventure park and Disneyland Paris, guests will encounter the heroes in new and exciting ways, from the mystic arts of Doctor Strange to the gravity-defying feats of Spider-Man. Guests will also experience the latest in Pym Technology with Ant-Man and Wasp and be wowed as Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Captain America and more leap into action on a moment’s notice.
Disneyland Resort has officially begun construction the Marvel-themed area expansion coming to Disney California Adventure Park!
The new area will be located in the area that was formerly home to A Bug’s Land which closed September 4.
The Marvel-inspired area will neighbor the popular Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction, the first Marvel-themed Disney ride to reach the west coast since the company purchased Marvel in 2009. As you can see in the photos below, construction is being handled by the perfect company!
The public is now blocked off from the area by a Stark Industries gate, Stark Industries is a multinational industrial company owned by Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man!

The new Super Hero-themed land will begin recruiting guests in 2020, with even more new experiences to follow. The Guardians of the Galaxy will be joined by Spider-Man and the Avengers in what will become a completely immersive Super Hero universe, furthering the evolution of Disney California Adventure park.
Little details have been offered on how Marvel characters will be incorporated into the new land or it’s name, referring to it simply as a “Super Hero-themed land” because of contractual obligations with Universal Studios that prevents Disney from using the word “Marvel” in its name.
Other new Marvel experiences based on character like Iron Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp are also being developed for Disney’s international parks and will be debuting at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland
Disneyland Resort’s Marvel-inspired land debuts at Disney California Adventure Park in 2020.
Disney recently announced a Marvel themed land coming to many of its parks around the world, but due to a contract that Marvel signed long before Disney acquired the company, they are not allowed to use the mention Marvel anywhere in Disneyland Resorts theme parks in Anaheim California.
Many Walt Disney World fans already know that the rights for most Marvel characters belong to Universal Studios and can’t be used anywhere in Disney World. But what you may not know is that the quarter-century old contract — which gives Universal the rights to Marvel characters east of the Mississippi River — is the same contract that also states that the Marvel’s name can’t be used in any theme park west of the Mississippi.
The new land in Anaheim will feature superheroes made famous in Marvel comic books, movies and video games, including Spider-Man, the Hulk and Iron man and many others. Just don’t expect it to be called Marvel Land. They can use the characters, but they just can’t mention Marvel anywhere. Marvel Entertainment was purchased by Disney in 2009, but still must follow licensing agreements with other movie studios.
Unlike Walt Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland in California is free to use Marvel characters however they like whether or not they appear at any Universal theme parks and they certainly don’t plan of changing their plans. They will be moving at superhero speed to complete the projects, but they will just have to call it something different, like “Avengers Land” or “Place with Lots of Superheros Land.” They will think of something and most people probably won’t give it a second thought. Working out a deal with universal isn’t out of the question either.
Disney officials declined to comment on the licensing agreement but said the deal won’t derail their plans to build an expansion that will resonate with fans, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“We are excited to bring these stories and their compelling characters to life with a new land in Disney California Adventure park,” said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown.
The largest hurdle Disney World has had to overcome in bringing more Marvel attractions to its parks, other than those based on franchises like “Guardians of the Galaxy“, is the fact that Universal Studios owns the east coast rights to most of the Marvel lineup. Well in a shocking turn of events, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced at the most recent shareholders meeting that Disney has negotiated a deal to bring the rights home to Disney and they will officially be adding a Marvel Land to Hollywood Studios.
“We think this will be a good thing. Marvel belongs home with Disney and we now have the opportunity to tell the stories of these characters in way like only Disney can.” Iger said. The audience laughed as he joked, “It’s always a little odd when you have to rent back your own property from someone who is renting it from you.” The deal is quite intricate he explained and there are no details on how exactly it was worked out. This comes on the heels of a recent announcement that Disneyland Parks around the globe are already getting Marvel themed lands and now Disney World wont be left out on the super hero action!
He was tight-lipped about some of the upcoming changes, but he did drop some bombs on what the future of Hollywood Studios will look like with the addition of Marvel Land. First and what will probably be most up setting for fans is that the area will be located around the Tower of Terror area where just like in California, the attraction will be converted to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! Iger made the announcement as he unveiled the only piece of concept art that he used during his speech as you can see in the photo below:
The ride is expected to be operational by late 2020, well before construction for Marvel Land is complete. “The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Hollywood Studios”, Iger said.
There will be a Marvel themed restaurant, of course multiple retail locations, and other attractions, but the only other attraction change Iger mentioned during the meeting was Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. The contract with Aerosmith was renewed not too long ago and it’s always a question of if they will continue renewing. Well I guess we have our answer, because in a statement that Iger let Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek deliver, he said, “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be transformed into an Ironman themed coaster that will immerse guests in a fantastic new thrilling adventure like never before.”
Iger said that the project can be expected to be fully completed by 2022 and those rides that will be getting overhauls will remain open for as long as possible to minimize the impact on guests during construction of new addition of Marvel Land. Work will begin on Tower of Terror first and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close temporarily while construction on the entire new land begins.
Fans have already been lighting up the internet as they are upset about the changing of more classic rides and it didn’t take long for the petitions to begin either. Change is hard and if you have loved Hollywood Studios since the day it opened in 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios, then this might be a hard one for you, but this is a change that is necessary for “Disney’s vision of the park’s future” Iger said in his final words at the meeting.
Walt Disney himself knew that his parks would continue to change and evolve. “As long as there is imagination left in the world”, said Walt. He also believed in a good laugh and a good joke so we hope you enjoyed this one. Happy April Fools Day… Oh yeah and Happy Easter. If anyone happens to be upset that the news isn’t true, don’t worry, there are Marvel Lands that are going to be popping up at nearly every other Disney Park on the Planet. And if you can’t make it out of Florida, we actually have our own Marvel Land right here… at Universal Studios. 🙂
