RUMOR: ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot To Star Female Pirate Redd as Sparrow Replacement

As we previously reported, Disney might be considering rebooting their billion dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise without Johnny Depp and now rumor has it that the lead role may go to a female pirate that many Disney fans already know.

According to a report today from Hybrid News, the studio is looking to center the franchise on Redd, the recently revamped character in the popular Disney Parks attraction.

The character is well known to Disney fans and has been around for quite some time.  The redhead has been part of the auction scene in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction since it first opened, but last year Disney reimagined that section of the ride in both Disneyland and Disney World.

In Disney World’s new version the famed redhead is no longer being auctioned off. She has a new look and a new attitude! Now she sports a rifle and clearly isn’t taking any guff from any scurvy pirates.

A bit mysterious by nature, Redd travels to various ports throughout the Caribbean—selling rum and collecting coin.  She has been given a full back story and it could be just what Disney is looking for.  After all, the ride inspired the first set of movies, why not let it inspire the reboot as well.

There is no script as of yet, but what we do know at this point is that Disney has had early talks with Deadpool and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about writing the reboot.

  • Disney Sued For Bed Bugs at Disneyland Hotel

Disney Sued For Bed Bugs at Disneyland Hotel

You might think Disney’s next live-action adaptation is “A Bug’s Life” according to a new lawsuit filed by a woman claiming the Disneyland Hotel is infested by bed bugs.

In a lawsuit filed earlier this week, Ivy Eldridge claims she suffered both physical and emotional damage after waking up at Anaheim’s Disneyland Hotel covered in bedbug bites while visiting the park with her family in April 2018, according to a L.A. Times report.

Eldridge’s attorney Brian Virag – of My Bed Bug Lawyer, Inc. – filed the lawsuit on Eldridge’s behalf, and named Walt Disney Co. and Disney Parks and Resorts as defendants in addition to Disneyland Hotel.

“People put trust in the Disney name and pay top dollar to stay at Disneyland Hotel. In this case, Ms. Eldridge’s trust was betrayed,” said Virag, per an article posted to the My Bed Bug Lawyer website.

“This was not a situation where a person sustained one or two bites. Ms. Eldridge was bitten throughout her body, including, but not limited to her face, ears, neck, arms, and back. She was absolutely butchered,” he added.

The lawsuit further claims that Disneyland was aware of the bedbug infestation, but did not take the appropriate steps to rectify it.

According to the L.A. Times Report, Disneyland spokeswoman Liz Jaeger said the company hasn’t seen the lawsuit but said in a statement that “these occurrences are extremely rare.”

“We take extensive preventative measures so that our guests are comfortable and safe during their hotel stays and when needed take aggressive steps to rectify,” Jaeger said.

  • Disney Reveals Guardians of the Galaxy ‘Storytelling’ Roller Coaster Ride Vehicle

Disney Reveals Guardians of the Galaxy ‘Storytelling’ Roller Coaster Ride Vehicle

The “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired attraction at Epcot is going to be an out of this galaxy experience like no other.  Earlier this week, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared the first details on the innovative new ride system planned to bring the adventurous attraction to life.

According to Bob, building an adventure this big will require a ride system and ride vehicles unlike anything our guests have experienced before. What guests will encounter on the Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction can best be described as a one-of-a-kind storytelling coaster that connects the adventure of a storyline with the thrills of a coaster.

“On most coasters, the vehicles point straight ahead throughout the ride,” Bob explained. “But on this attraction, each individual cab will be programmed to direct your eye to the story happening around you.

That means instead of whizzing by the action, you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch.”

The attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters when it opens in Future World at Epcot. Earlier this year, 960 trucks’ worth of concrete poured the foundation of this mammoth attraction, which will be housed inside a building so large that the volume of four Spaceship Earth attractions could fit inside it!

The attraction will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021.

  • Disney Reveals Name of New 15-story Tower at Coronado Springs Resort

Disney Reveals Name of New 15-story Tower at Coronado Springs Resort

Last year, Disney announced a massive expansion of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and today, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled more about the reimagining, including the name of the new 15-story centerpiece of the resort, the Gran Destino Tower.

The tower, which will be completed in July 2019, will serve as the new main entrance point for guests visiting the resort, and will add a total of 545 new guest rooms (including 50 suites) to the resort, as well as feature a gorgeous two-story lobby. A themed table-service restaurant is also planned for the top of Gran Destino Tower, which will serve up delicious food and incredible views of the Walt Disney World Resort.

An oasis set on the shore of Lago Dorado, the reimagined Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort celebrates the daring spirit of the great Spanish explorers, artists, writers and architects. Throughout the resort, guests will discover a blend of classic Spanish influences, imaginative Disney touches and modern comforts both inside and out. The resort’s more than 1,800 existing rooms have also been fully updated with new fixtures, furnishings and lighting. A second new restaurant is planned to open on an island in the middle of the resort’s 14-acre lake, Lago Dorado, with new walkways stretching across the water, making it convenient no matter where guests stay at the resort. And a fresh color palette will tie the entire resort experience together, blending the new and the newly reimagined.

Guests will soon be able to make reservations for Gran Destino Tower for stays beginning in July 2019.

  • Man Banned from Disney World After Holding Trump 2020 Sign on Splash Mountain

Man Banned from Disney World After Holding Trump 2020 Sign on Splash Mountain

A man who several weeks ago was banned from Disney World after hanging a huge Donald Trump 2020 banner in the Magic Kingdom has been banned — for a second time.

Disney officials took away Don Cini’s annual pass back in September, after he posted a video of him waving a Trump 2020 banner over the Main Street Train Station. Disney reconsidered the position and allowed him to come back to the parks with the stipulation that he would not hang anymore flags.

Now his latest political antics have gotten him banned — again. And this time permanently. Cini was captured holding a Trump 2020 banner on Splash Mountain. After, the ride picture came with more than the usual decorative boarder.  This one came with a note from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office saying that Cini trespassed and his conduct is not welcomed on Disney property.

Cini says that after taking the picture, he was escorted off property and he is now banned from all Disney World properties, including the theme parks, resorts, and Disney Springs.

A picture of Don Cini’s latest guerilla style political support shows him riding down Splash Mountain with a “Trump 2020” sign and on Expedition Everest, he held a “Keep America Great” sign.

We spoke with Cini and asked him if he thought it was worth it. He said, “Yes, because I shouldn’t have been trespassed.” Cini is currently meeting with attorneys to find out what options are available to him. “I didn’t expect them to trespass I just wanted to get the picture,” Cini said.

Disney has now permanently revoked his annual pass, which he says he had for 24 years. Disney’s park rules state that, “the usage of any flag, banner or sign to incite a crowd” is prohibited.

  • Disney Drops First ‘Toy Story 4’ Teaser Trailer

Disney Drops First ‘Toy Story 4’ Teaser Trailer

The very first teaser trailer for ‘Toy Story 4’ dropped Monday along with details about the much-anticipated sequel that will emotionally take audiences to “infinity and beyond.”

The Disney Pixar film is the third sequel to Toy Story starring Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, but Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang are joined by newcomer “Forky” in the teaser trailer.

Forky, voiced by Tony Hale, was a spork until Bonnie made him into a craft project. Since he was not originally a toy, Forky faces something of an existential crisis. Take a look below:

The story centers around Woody who has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

With the release of Toy Story 4, the beloved franchise now spans more than two decades. The original film was released in 1995, with Toy Story 2 close behind in 1999. The third film, released in 2010, featured the protagonist, Andy, all grown up and going off to college as the toys find a new home with Bonnie.

“Like most people, I assumed that Toy Story 3 was the end of the story,” director Josh Cooley said in a press release. “And it was the end of Woody’s story with Andy. But just like in life, every ending is a new beginning.”

Josh Cooley is now helming the film after John Lasseter stepped down from the project and Stephany Folsom has penned the next installment of the franchise after, actress Rashida Jones left due to “creative and philosophical differences” in November 2017.

    Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.

  • Disney Reveals New Streaming Service Will Be Called Disney Plus

Disney Reveals New Streaming Service Will Be Called Disney Plus

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced yesterday during a live audio webcast of Disney’s fiscal full year and fourth quarter 2018 financial results that the name of Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service is Disney+.

Disney’s new DTC (direct to consumer) streaming service is meant to be a direct competitor with Netflix and hopefully give the company a serious foothold in the streaming market.

One thing this new service has is lots of content, but still Disney is planning on making more. Disney also announced its plans for a second Live action Star Wars series as well as a Marvel series centered around a fan-favorite character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The new projects join an impressive slate of films and series planned for Disney+ that includes new stories set in the worlds of Disney•Pixar’s Monsters Inc. and Disney Channel’s High School Musical, as well as a galaxy far, far away. Earlier this year, Lucasfilm revealed that Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau will write and executive produce The Mandalorian for Disney+.

Once ties are severed with Netflix for good, Disney will be losing an estimated $300 million in annual revenue from Netflix for pay-TV rights. Beginning in 2019, Captain Marvel and every Disney film released in theaters will no longer head to Netflix and instead will make their way to Disney+. Ant-Man and the Wasp will now be the last Marvel movie to come to Netflix.

Disney+ is scheduled to launch in the U.S. in late 2019.

  • Disney Announces Marvel TV Series Based on Loki Starring Tom Hiddleston

Disney Announces Marvel TV Series Based on Loki Starring Tom Hiddleston

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger confirmed yesterday that Marvel is in development of a live-action series for the company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service called Disney+.

To help Disney+ complete with Netflix, the company is assembling a live-action series centered around a fan-favorite character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iger confirmed during Disney’s latest earnings report that Marvel Studios is developing a series based on Loki and Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as the god of mischief.

Disney+ will debut in the United States sometime in late 2019. It’s unclear when the Loki show will debut, how many episodes there will be, or what the plot will be, but thankfully the rumor of a live-action series centered around Loki isn’t just more mischief from the demigod trickster from Asgard.

We don’t know where in Marvel’s timeline this new series will fit into, but it will be interesting to see given the character’s fate in Avengers: Infinity War.

Iger also announced that Lucasfilm is developing a second Star Wars live-action series for the new service. Stay tuned to Disney Dorks for the latest updates.

A Second Live-Action Star Wars Series Based on ‘Rogue One’ is in the Works

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced yesterday that Lucasfilm is in development of a second Star Wars live-action series for the company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service called Disney+.

The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor.

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.

A release date for the series has not yet been announced. Stay tuned to Disney Dorks for the latest updates.
