VIDEO: Disney Cruise Line Reaches Key Construction Milestone in Fleet Expansion with Captain Minnie Mouse at the Helm

Today, Disney Cruise Line reached a significant construction milestone marked by the traditional keel laying ceremony of the Disney Wish, the first of three new ships in the line’s fleet expansion. Also announced today, the magic of Captain Minnie Mouse will come to life for the first time through whimsical artwork on the bow of the Disney Wish, a hallmark of Disney Cruise Line vessels.

“As we look to the future with anticipation and excitement for continuing our legacy of creating magical vacations for families across the globe, we are thrilled to reach this significant milestone in the ship building process and to unveil Captain Minnie as the beloved character on the bow of the Disney Wish,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line.

Keel laying takes place when the first block, or section of a ship, is lowered into the building dock, and a newly minted coin is placed under the keel for good fortune. The coin created for the Disney Wish features Captain Minnie, who made her debut aboard Disney Cruise Line ships in 2019 as part of a collection of initiatives aiming to inspire the next generation of female leaders in the cruise industry. Take a look at the video below:

“In maritime tradition, keel laying is the ceremonial beginning of the ship’s life,” said Philip Gennotte, portfolio project management executive, Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, who placed the coin at the ceremony. “Today marked a momentous occasion for the Disney Wish, and I could not be more proud of our Imagineers, the cast and crew at Disney Cruise Line and the team at Meyer Werft, the shipyard in Germany, who are bringing this enchanting ship to life.”

As previously announced, the Disney Wish is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage in summer 2022. Information on itineraries and bookings for the ship will be released at a later date.

The Disney Wish will showcase the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver. The ship will be powered by liquified natural gas, or LNG, one of the cleanest-burning fuels available. At approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, the ship will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

  • Walt Disney Studios Releases Second ‘Cruella’ Trailer

Walt Disney Studios Releases Second ‘Cruella’ Trailer

Disney has unleashed a new full-length trailer for it’s upcoming Cruella de Vil origin story.

In the latest trailer, Stone’s Cruella, at first just an aspiring and daring fashion designer named Estella, gets killer advice from Thompson’s Baroness on how to make it in the industry.

“Let me give you some advice, you can’t care about anyone else,” Baroness is seen telling then-Estella during a fancy meal at the beginning of the trailer. “Everyone else is an obstacle. You care what an obstacles wants or feels, you’re dead. If I care about anyone or thing I might’ve died.” Take a look at the trailer below:

“You have the talent. Whether you have the killer instinct is the big question,” Baroness says, and Cruella sets out to prove she has just that in the rest of the action-packed trailer that pits the women against each other.

The film also stars Paul Walter Hauser and Joel Fry as Cruella’s henchmen Horace and Jasper, and Emma Thompson as the Baroness, the head of a fashion house where our budding villainess gets a job. Having been announced in 2013 and cast its leading lady in 2016, the project has had a long journey to the screen, passing between multiple writers before Dana Fox and Tony McNamara wrote the final version of the screenplay.

The Walt Disney Company releases Cruella on May 28.

  • Disney World to Allow Guests to Remove Face Masks for Photos

Disney World to Allow Guests to Remove Face Masks for Photos

A big change has come to the face mask policy at Disney World as guests will now be allowed to remove their masks when taking an outdoor photo.

Beginning April 8, guests will be allowed to remove their masks temporarily while taking outdoor photos; however, you’ll need to remain stationary and be sure to keep an “appropriate” physical distance while snapping shots.

“You may temporarily remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking or taking an outdoor photo, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing during this time,” according to Disney’s website.

Previously guests would have to keep their masks on while taking photos at the parks. All guests ages 2 and up are still required to wear face masks during their visit.

Since reopening last summer with new health and safety measures, Disney has periodically updated its face mask policy. Earlier this year, Disney updated the policy to say that even visitors who have received the COVID-19 vaccine would still be required to wear a face mask. The change comes as vaccine rollout continues in the United States.

  • Disney Launches New Contactless Park Entry Option

Disney Launches New Contactless Park Entry Option

As of Tuesday, guests with Apple devices can now use the Disney MagicMobile service that basically turns their smartphones into a MagicBand, allowing contactless entry into the parks.

Available now on iPhone and Apple Watch and coming soon to other smart devices, Disney MagicMobile service is a fun, easy-to-use new way for guests to experience The Most Magical Place on Earth. The service is offered in addition to other options such as the MagicBand, the colorful, all-in-one bracelet, which will continue to be available and introduced in even more colors, designs and limited-edition fan favorites into the future.

Below are a few helpful tips to get started with Disney MagicMobile service:

    • Create A Customized Digital Pass: Guests can create a Disney MagicMobile pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to the Wallet app on iPhone or the digital wallet on other smart devices. You can customize your pass by choosing from several Disney-themed designs that animate upon use (including special designs just for Annual Passholders and DVC Members)! For added ease, you may also store multiple passes on a single device, a great option for families.
    • Easily Enter the Parks and More: Simply hold your iPhone, Apple Watch, or other smart device near an access point when entering the parks or using other available features, just like you do with a MagicBand. With Express Mode on iPhone and Apple Watch, guests do not even need to wake or unlock their Apple device, or open up the app, to use their Disney MagicMobile pass. As a reminder, valid park admission and a park reservation are required for park entry and must be linked to your account.
    • Discover Other App Enhancements: We’ve also added a new feature in the My Disney Experience app that allows you to automatically link your Disney PhotoPass attraction photos and videos to your profile through your smartphone. Just confirm your settings in advance of riding at participating attractions. The My Disney Experience app also enables Disney Resort hotel guests to unlock their room door using our current digital room key feature.

You may use Disney MagicMobile service, a MagicBand or a card interchangeably for added flexibility. Disney Resort hotel guests can purchase MagicBands at a special, pre-arrival price. Guests can also pick up a Key to the World card at their convenience at the front desk.
