Name Revealed for New Toy Story Hotel Opening at Tokyo Disney Resort

As we previously reported, a new family-friendly Disney hotel based on the Disney·Pixar “Toy Story” films is coming to Tokyo Disney Resort and today they have released some new concept art and finally revealed the name.

Tokyo Disney Resort has announced that its new Toy Story-themed hotel will be called ‘Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel.’

With 595 guest rooms and 11 floors, the hotel’s exterior, entrance, lobby and other areas will bring to life the world of toys based on the Academy Award-winning Disney and Pixar “Toy Story” films.

From the hotel exterior to the spacious gardens, guests will enjoy a world where everything looks like it’s made of toys. The guest rooms are inspired by Andy’s bedroom, including Woody, Buzz Lightyear and their friends, with colorful furniture and other immersive features inspired by the world of “Toy Story.” The hotel will also include dining and shopping.

This will be the fifth Disney hotel to open in Japan but the first “moderate type” Disney hotel in the country, offering guests a new option between “deluxe type” and “value type” hotels.

The hotel is situated directly in front of Bayside Station on the Disney Resort Line, providing guests easy access to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea Parks. Can’t wait to check this one out!

  • Pixar’s Soul Releasing on Disney+ Without Mulan’s Premier Access Fee

Pixar’s Soul Releasing on Disney+ Without Mulan’s Premier Access Fee

Christmas Day moviegoers may be disappointed with a lack of theater options this year, but Disney Plus subscribers have something to look forward to. Disney announced that Pixar’s Soul is skipping theaters and will debut exclusively on Disney Plus in time for Christmas.

Unlike Mulan, which required subscribers to pay an additional $29.99 on top of their monthly fee to access the movie, Pixar’s Soul will exclusively join the Disney+ library starting December 25.

The comedy, which was previously scheduled for a June release before being postponed to November amid the coronavirus pandemic, stars the voice talents of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Angela Bassett and Daveed Diggs, as well as, original jazz music by globally renowned musician Jon Batiste. Take a look at the tweet from Disney Plus below:

“We are thrilled to share Pixar’s spectacular and moving ‘Soul’ with audiences direct to Disney+ in December,” said Bob Chapek, chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company. “A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season.”

“Soul” concerns Joe, a middle-school band teacher, whose true passion is playing jazz, and who gets his dream gig moments before he dies. Take a look at the trailer below:

The trailer opens with Joe asking, “What would you want to be known for on Earth?” A montage follows that shows people in their everyday lives, including commuting in a busy city and working jobs like a doctor, barber and hedge fund manager. “We only have a short time on this planet. You wanna become the person that you were born to be? Don’t waste your time on all the junk of life,” Joe continues in a voiceover.

On his journey to get back to his own body, Joe meets Tina Fey‘s 22, a soul who can’t stand humans but helps Joe on his mission across the cosmos. Other characters are voiced by Blindspotting‘s Daveed Diggs, The Cosby Show‘s Phylicia Rashad, and The Roots drummer Questlove.

“The world can be an exhausting and frustrating place – but it’s also full of unexpected joys, even in seemingly mundane things,” said Pete Docter, director of Soul and Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios. “Soul investigates what’s really important in our lives, a question we’re all asking these days. I hope it will bring some humor and fun to people at a time when everyone can surely use that.”

Soul will get a theatrical release in those foreign territories where Disney+ isn’t available.

  • Pixar Announces New Animated Film ‘Luca’

Pixar Announces New Animated Film ‘Luca’

Pixar announced on Thursday that its next original animated feature film will be “Luca,” a coming-of-age tale about a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer in Italy.

The film centers on a young boy named Luca who is secretly a sea monster from another world that lies just below the surface of the water. Appearing as a human, he meets a newfound best friend with whom he shares an unforgettable summer at a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, filled with gelato, pasta, and endless scooter rides. But Luca’s secret threatens this idyllic experience.

Take a look at some of the beautiful art from the film below:

The film is directed by La Luna‘s Academy Award nominee Enrico Casarosa, who grew up where the film is set.

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” said Casarosa in a statement.

Walt Disney said Luca is set to open in U.S. theaters on June 18, 2021.

  • Pixar’s First Gay Main Character Arrives in Disney+ Short Film

Pixar’s First Gay Main Character Arrives in Disney+ Short Film

“Out,” a short film that features Pixar’s first gay main character, was released Friday on Disney+.

The computer animation studio, owned by Disney, premiered the film on the Disney+ streaming service through its SparkShorts series. It follows the story of a man named Greg who struggles with coming out to his parents before moving in with his boyfriend, Manuel.

Disney+ announced the “heartwarming” tale on its Twitter account along with the short’s trailer. Take a look at it below:

“Out” was directed by Steven Clay Hunter, known for animating “Finding Nemo” and “WALL-E,” among other Pixar films. Max Sachar, known for his work on “Coco” and “Toy Story 3” produced the short.

In March, Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, shut down a critic who claimed that the company is losing money because its products “promote LGBT ideology.” Chapek stated that the company wants “to tell stories that our audience wants to hear that reflects their lives.”

Walt Disney Studios has been stepping up its LGBTQ representation recently by including LGBTQ storylines in films including “Avengers: Endgame” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” It also recently made history with “Onward,” an animated film that features a lesbian character voiced by Lena Waithe.

A number of upcoming Disney projects are also slated to include LGBTQ characters, including “The Eternals” and “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

Disney Pixar’s ‘Onward’ Coming to Disney+ Earlier Due to Coronavirus Outbreak

Disney’s latest Pixar feature “Onward” will be arriving to the at-home market earlier than expected due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Walt Disney Studios announced today that Disney and Pixar’s Onward will be available to buy digitally and on Movies Anywhere beginning today at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST and on Disney+ on April 3 in the U.S.

The film premiered in theaters on March 6 and earned rave reviews from audiences, including a 95% Verified Audience Score on RottenTomatoes. With cinemas currently impacted by closures due to the global health crisis, Disney will offer the film ahead of schedule to purchase on digital platforms in the U.S. beginning today at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST for $19.99.

“While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said Dan Scanlon (Director, Onward) and Kori Rae (Producer, Onward).

In Onward, teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere. Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior—aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer)—and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.

Disney & Edy’s Release Ice Cream Flavors Inspired By Pixar Movies

Edy’s is partnering up with Disney’s Pixar to release four new ice cream flavors that celebrate Pixar’s classic animated hits “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles” and “Monsters, Inc.”

The limited-edition flavors can be found at participating stores (such as Publix and Meijer) now, but they won’t be around forever, so don’t miss your chance to enjoy these yummy additions to the Edy’s family.

First, there is Coral Reef Orange and Cream, which pays homage to “Finding Nemo.” The light orange and vanilla sherbet include the sweet addition of little chocolate fishes.

Then, there’s Cookies and Scream, a yummy cookies n’ cream combo that is a nod to “Monsters, Inc.” It’s made with light vanilla ice cream, chocolate cookie pieces, a fudge swirl and little Mike and Sully chocolate pieces.

And then there’s Jack-Jack Cookie Crumble, which is a combo of light chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed with chocolate cookie pieces and little chocolate masks (to mimic the superhero masks worn by the characters in “The Incredibles”).

Last but not least is Edy’s new Chocolate Peanut Butter Toy Chest. Made with light chocolate ice cream and a peanut butter swirl, the dessert is made even more decadent thanks to chocolate “Toy Story” pieces that are filled with peanut butter.

  • First Look: Disney and Pixar’s ‘Onward’ Character Meet & Greet Coming to Disney Parks

First Look: Disney and Pixar’s ‘Onward’ Character Meet & Greet Coming to Disney Parks

In Disney and Pixar’s original adventure, “Onward,” teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot embark on an extraordinary quest after being given the chance to spend one more day with their late father and soon, they’ll be making another epic journey to see you at their new meet and greet!

On March 5, Ian and Barley will make their Disney Parks debut as part of the Disneyland After Dark: Pixar Nite special event, and beginning the next day – the same day “Onward” hits theaters – you’ll be able to meet them daily at Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park. Soon, the elf brothers will also make their way to Hong Kong Disneyland, to meet guests and then join in the fun with the return of the Pixar Water Play Street Party!

Set in a suburban fantasy world, “Onward” introduces us to Ian Lightfoot, a 16-year-old elf who yearns for the father he lost before he was born. Ian is sweet and determined with the best of intentions, but his lack of confidence and nervous energy trips him up more often than not. Ian is convinced that if only he had his father’s guidance, his life wouldn’t be so complicated and messy.

Ian’s older brother Barley Lightfoot is a big, boisterous 19-year-old elf who loves magic and immerses himself in fantasy role-playing games. He’s a free spirit who may be slightly more passionate about the past than the present. When their late father inadvertently sends Barley and Ian on an epic quest together – one highlighted by mystery and magic – Barley fires up his beloved and mostly dependable van Guinevere and never looks back.

Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” releases in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020, so make plans to see the movie and then head to Disney Parks to say “Hail, fellows!” to Ian and Barley! Before you go, be sure to check out the latest products inspired by the film, available now at shopDisney.com and at Disney Parks around the world.
