The park says no one was inside the gondolas at the time. The attraction eventually got back up and running.
The incident happened at the Hollywood Studios Skyliner station Thursday night.
Disney Skyliner has proven to be a massive success and has prompted Disney to reduce bus service to Hollywood Studios and Epcot at Pop Century Resort and is encouraging guests to ride the Skyliner starting today.
Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort which also have Skyliner access have not altered their bus schedules as of yet.
Signs have been posted around Disney’s Pop Century Resort advising guests that buses traveling to Epcot and Hollywood Studios will only depart once an hour as you can see in the post below:

Bus service to Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom are unaffected by the change.
Disney Skyliner’s current schedule will remain unaltered, but this change now makes Disney Skyliner the preferred mode of transportation between Pop Century and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
Riders on the recently opened Skyliner gondola ride at Walt Disney World were stranded for hours late Saturday night after an apparent malfunction, according to witnesses and social media posts.
A Walt Disney World spokeswoman confirmed there was an issue and said there are no reported injuries. There was “unexpected downtime” on the Skyliner, the spokeswoman said.
Riders were starting to be evacuated from the ride after 11 p.m.
As of midnight, Disney offered no new details on what happened and did not confirm that riders had been taken off the gondolas.
Reedy Creek officials are on the scene on Epcot Resorts Drive, along with fire trucks from Orange and Osceola counties. That is adjacent to the system’s line that connects Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort with Epcot. It also runs through a station for Disney’s Riviera Resort, a Disney Vacation Club offering scheduled to debut in December. It is the longest line on the system, which opened last week.
Yesterday, Disney shared the first look at the first Disney Skyliner merchandise inspired by artwork similar to what will be featured on the gondolas.
The new collection offers something for every member of the family, including t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, pins, MagicBands, Christmas ornaments, toys and more.

We were invited to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort yesterday for a special dedication moment for the complimentary new transportation system. The festivities featured Disney characters, fireworks and more in honor of this “most magical flight on Earth.”

Disney Skyliner connects Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios to four Disney resort hotels – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the forthcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort, a Disney Vacation Club resort set to open Dec. 16, 2019. Disney Skyliner will offer guests sweeping views while whisking them between Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and four Disney resort hotels. Each cabin can accommodate up to 10 guests, including those traveling with wheelchairs or assistive devices. And with the system constantly in motion, guests will arrive at their selected destinations in minutes while enjoying the comfort of cabins specifically tailored for the Florida climate.

The Disney Skyliner Gondola system has been making a lot of progress lately and this week it hit another exciting milestone! The first guest cabins have begun making test runs back-and-forth between Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
The state-of-the-art gondola system will begin transporting guests at the Walt Disney World Resort beginning later this fall. The system will conveniently connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort as well as the proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property, Disney’s Riviera Resort.
The test-run gondolas recently traveled across Victory Way between the stations at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. “Soon there will be more gondolas added and cycling on the line as teams continue testing and training,” said Walt Disney Imagineering associate project manager Steve Pratt.
As you can see in the image with The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in the background, the gondolas remained covered during testing. But when operating later this fall, some cabins will feature beautiful graphics based on Disney films, attractions and characters.
