VIDEO: New Droid Depot App Brings Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Life at Home

It’s Star Wars Day, but you don’t have to travel to a galaxy far, far, away this year, as your very own Star Wars stories can now come to life at home with the all-new Droid Depot mobile app.

The out-of-this-world app, available for free download on the App Store and Google Play, brings your BB-series or R-series astromech droid unit from Droid Depot at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to life for a galactic experience at home.

While these droids can interact with elements in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, now your droids can interact with you at home. For those of you who haven’t built an astromech droid unit yet, you’re in luck! You can also channel your inner droid builder in an all-new virtual experience where you can build a digital droid and create a whole new virtual collection of droids. Take a look at the video below:

Join the Resistance when you sync up with your Droid Depot astromech unit. Every Jedi, Sith Lord and Rebel alike will be able to program their droids, customize them by name, see their profiles, and pilot them on a virtual path around their home activating sounds and maneuvers using the app.

You’ll also be able to choose some favorite galactic jams by DJ R3X straight from Oga’s Cantina and choreograph your droid to dance its way through your home.

From the youngest Padawan to the most knowledgeable Jedi, there are also adventures that await you in strategy mode! Here you will be able to play a game of tic-tac-toe with your droid in both easy and difficult modes.

What are you waiting for? The Droid Depot app is available in the U.S. and Canada and can be downloaded for free on the App Store or Google Play. For the very first time, direct from a galaxy far, far, away, pre-built versions of BB-8 and R2-D2 interactive remote control droids from Droid Depot at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are available for a limited time, while supplies last, on shopDisney.com – they’ll arrive at your home, ready to play as soon as you sync them with the app.

  • ‘The Mandalorian’ Docuseries Set For Star Wars Day Premiere On Disney+

‘The Mandalorian’ Docuseries Set For Star Wars Day Premiere On Disney+

To help celebrate Star Wars Day, Disney+ is set to receive an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look in a new eight-part documentary series exclusive to the streaming platform.

The first of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian’s eight episodes will premiere on Disney+ on May 4 — or May the Fourth, to Star Wars fans — with new episodes every Friday.

That the eight episodes of this docuseries perfectly corresponds to the episode count of season one of The Mandalorian might lead you to believe that each episode of Gallery would focus on a different “chapter” of the show. Alas, the announcement says each “explores a different facet” of the series’ creation through never-before-seen footage and interviews hosted by Jon Favreau.

Some such facets include “the filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.”

  • Rosario Dawson Cast as Ahsoka Tano in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2

Rosario Dawson Cast as Ahsoka Tano in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2

The Mandalorian‘s second season will feature Rosario Dawson as a live-action Ahsoka Tano!

The “Briarpatch” star has been cast in the guest starring role of Ahsoka Tano, Variety has confirmed.

Tano is Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice and one of the central characters in the popular animated “Star Wars” series. This will mark the character’s first live-action appearance, after being voiced by Ashley Eckstein on all seven seasons of “Clone Wars,” the final season of which is currently airing on Disney Plus.

Season 2 of “The Mandalorian” is slated to drop on Disney Plus this Fall, after showrunner and creator Jon Favreau confirmed that a second season was on the way late last year. Favreau also previously revealed that Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Carga in the series, is set to direct an episode of its sophomore season.

The series is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, following the travails of Mando (Pedro Pascal) in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. Season 1 ended with Mando flying off in search of Baby Yoda’s home planet. Precisely how Dawson’s Tano fits into the equation will be interesting to see, especially given all the events that take place between the end of the Clone Wars and the fall of the Empire.

“The Mandalorian” is the first “Star Wars” series to air on Disney Plus, and the Mouse House also has two others series from a Galaxy far, far away in the works, namely a Cassian Andor series starring Diego Luna reprising his role from “Rogue One,” and an Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Ewan McGregor reprising the iconic role.

The series is executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist serves as co-executive producer. Directors on season 1 included Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow, who has been tapped to direct the Obi-Wan series as well.

  • Baby Yoda and ‘The Mandalorian’ Meet & Greet Coming to Disney Parks

Baby Yoda and ‘The Mandalorian’ Meet & Greet Coming to Disney Parks

This is the way! “The Mandalorian” break out star, dubbed “Baby Yoda” by the internet, will soon have a meet and greet at Disney Parks according to recent reports!

When visiting Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland or Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, you’re sure to see characters like Rey, Kylo Ren, Chebacca, and R2-D2, and with the extreme popularity of “The Mandalorian” it comes as no surprise that “The Child” and Mando might be added to the line up.

Paul Southern, senior vice president of licensing for Lucasfilm, recently spoke with In The Know and revealed that encounters for “The Mandalorian” characters are currently being worked on. Take a look at what he had to say below:

“So, the reality is that we feel it’s really important for our guests at the parks to be able to meet all of our key characters on a first-hand, personal basis,” Southern said “And so it’s something we’re working on. We think it’s appropriate, and I think it’s something the guests at the parks can look forward to in the very near future.”

Since he never takes his helmet off, it wouldn’t be too difficult for Disney to get someone to play “The Mandalorian”, but a fully animatronic “Baby Yoda” could take a little more time to roll out.

Nothing official has been announced by Lucasfilm or Disney, but this would be an amazing meet & greet opportunity for guests visiting the parks and with the second season of the show streaming this fall, the timing couldn’t be better!

  • BREAKING: Baby Yoda is Coming to Build-A-Bear

BREAKING: Baby Yoda is Coming to Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear Workshop revealed today that it will be releasing a Baby Yoda plush in the coming months and excited we are!

The company revealed a prototype of a new plush figure based on The Child character from Disney’s “The Mandalorian” at the ICR Conference in Orlando.

“I’m excited to share we will be one of the first companies to provide the digital and internet phenomenon who is trending higher than all the presidential candidates combined,” Build-A-Bear CEO Sharon Price John said during the conference.

Toys featuring the instantly popular character from “The Mandalorian” have been in high demand since the show debuted on Disney Plus in November. A Baby Yoda toy from Funko quickly became a top-selling action figure on Amazon in early December – even though customers who preordered the toy will not receive it until May.
